In my military records of Edwin Emery Phillips (E.E.) it states that Bertha Myers at time of marriage lived at 15 Victoria st. Alexandria and her father wasGustave Riche a engineer. she was recorded as a 53 year widow and Edwin Emery was a 43 year old bachelor with father Thomas Phillips, Hardware merchant, England. You may have the wrong Edwin.

Somehow the information on frederick William Phillips' address is astray. Could you send it again and I will print it out this time. Thank you

I don't know what to think. This is a marriage which would fit with her being married before. In addition, the 1911 census shows that this lady is a lot older than Edwin.
Marriages Dec 1887
MYERS Edwin Alfred Woolwich 1d 1667
RISCH Bertha Louisa S Woolwich 1d 1667

After this marriage, she would be Bertha Myers.

I have found this couple on the 1891 and 1901 census, and they had a lot of children. Did any children go to Australia?

I will send you copies of the two census records, This marriage definitely fits a picture of her being Risch first (easily mistaken for something which sounds the same, and it sounds foreign, as opposed to ordinary English names) and then marrying a Myers.

Have sent you the address through contact service. let me know if it arrives OK.

This is what I think the picture is:-

Bertha was born in England.
Bertha Louisa Susan Risch 1863 Apr-May-Jun Westminster St Margaret Middlesex

On the 1871 census she is living with her parents.
Gustav Resch Louisa abt 1832 Berlin Head Charlton, London
Louisa Resch Gustas abt 1842 West Indies Wife Charlton, London
Bertha Resch Gustas,
Louisa abt 1864 Pemlico, Middlesex, England Daughter Charlton, London
Matilda Resch Gustas,
Louisa abt 1866 Charlton, Kent, England Daughter Charlton, London
Gustas Resch Gustas,
Louisa abt 1867 Charlton, Kent, England Son Charlton, London
Frank Resch Gustas,
Louisa abt 1870 Charlton, Kent, England Son Charlton, London

She marries Edwin Alfred Myers in accordance with the marriage details.

And on the 1891 census, she is living with Edwin Alfred Myers.
1891 census.
Bertha L T Myers abt 1864 Pimlico, London, England Wife Greenwich, London
Edwin A Myers abt 1864 Rotherhithe, London, England Head Greenwich, London
Edwin B Myers abt 1889 Charlton, Kent, England Son Greenwich, London
Norah M Myers abt 1890 Greenwich, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich, London
SHE IS STILL with Edwin Alfred Myers in 1901
1901 census.

Bertha L S Myers Edwin A abt 1865 Pimlico, London, England Wife Greenwich, London

Edwin A Myers Bertha L S abt 1865 Rotherhith, London, England Head Greenwich, London

Edwin B Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1889 Charlton, Kent, England Son Greenwich, London

Norah M Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1890 Charlton, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich, London

Philip A Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1892 Charlton, Kent, England Son Greenwich, London
Dorothy E Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1894 Charlton, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich, London
Ray H Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1897 Charlton, Kent, England Son Greenwich, London

Tera B Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1898 Plumstead, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich, London

I know this sounds unlikely, but if your marriage details give a father of Gustav Riche, then the marriage and the census details are too similar for it not to be the same woman.

Please --- PROVE ME WRONG!!!

Clifford H Myers Edwin A,
Bertha L S abt 1900 Westcombe Park, Kent, England Son Greenwich, London

Wow what a journey and interesting work. The only people to prove wrong will be the wild stories from my near relatives in Canada. Thank you.

If the family is correct, then they were quite wealthy people, because Gustav had a very good job for the year 1861. This is his marriage, and the 1861 census, before young Bertha was born.

DID ANY OF THE CHILDREN GO TO AUSTRALIA. I would be interested to see if they did.

Can you tell me which sites you use for the Australian information. I have a couple of sources, but not very much information.

Who else are you looking for. I think in my next life I am coming back as a detective!!!

VERY INTERESTING:-

On the 1911 census, Edwin Myers is still alive, and living with his two youngest children, Roy H. and Vera. The child called Clifford, on the 1901 census, died in September 1901. Edwin is living with a “wife” called Amy, who he says he has been married to for 3 years. So the next question is, did he get a divorce, or did he commit bigamy. I do love it when truth is better than fiction.

I am focussing only on the Phillips and Terry relatives. The Myers information is not of interest to me. Thank you for your help but I do not want to get off track. Regards
