Hey, Ken

We communicated over e-mail YEARS ago when I lived in San Jose, CA. Am now retired and living in the Gold Rush country. I DO believe our J.C. Murrays ARE related because I KNOW my John Cleveland married in Randolph County, AR. He married Charlotte Houghton. I've never been able to figure out HOW our J.C.s are related (cousins?) At any rate, I can trace Charlotte to Sonoma County, CA (she remarried, but have no idea what happened to J.C.

Have a good one and hang in!

It's very interesting. With the same names it sure seems likely. I've tried to find Cleve's grave. The family says he died in 1862 after Shiloh. His military records list him dead by July/August of 1862. No grave at Shiloh or no marked grave in our family cemetery although two spots are open next to his wife's parents and some of our family thinks that he and his wife who died in 1863 are buried there. We'll keep looking. Good to hear from you!

Gold Rush Country? Colorado or the Dakotas? I'm in Kansas

Hi again, Ken

My genealogy files are all in storage in my Tuff Shed. But, later this afternoon I think I'll have some time to "recover" them. If you don't hear from me today, I'll be in touch for certain tomorrow. Then I can talk "more intelligently," giving you accurate info.

'til then,
Diane

PS: I DO recall thre being an Isom (close to Isham) in Sonoma County, CA. Maybe a continuation of the practice of "family names?"

Hey, Ken

My gg-grandfather John Cleveland Murray is PROBABLY the John Cleveland Murray born in 1827, as shown on the 1850 Arkansas census.

I DO know that my gg-grandfather J. C. Murray, SR married Charlotte Houghton in Arkansas(I believe in Randolph County)in October of 1850, a month after the census was taken.

John Cleveland and Charlotte (Lottie) had two children:
John Cleveland, Jr. and Sarah C. Murray.

I absolutely cannot FIND any further reference to my John Cleveland Murray,SR.

Charlotte Murray is shown on the 1860 US census in San Joaquin County, CA with a new husband, James German.

I have a cousin on the Murray side, whose father, Jack, was my moter's cousin. Jack maintained that John Cleveland Murray, SR WAS in Sonoma county in the 1860's and married a woman by the name of Susan Cody Williams. According to my cousin, they had a son named Isom, who died before the age of 10. THIS would seem to suggest that J. C.Murray SR and Charlotte Houghton were divorced. At one time, I DID see "death info" on the child Isom Murray, but it was shown on a copy of a "death roll," not an actualy death cert. I've never been able to connect Susan Williams with J. C. Murray, SR.

I seriously doubt that I've helped you here . . . and yet, I DO feel we come from the same family tree.

Take care,
Diane

Wow, this is intriguing! On the one hand my J.C. was born in about 1837 so it seems unlikely that he could be the same man but again the similarities and the Isom!!! Amazing. Also his apparent death in 1862 at the age of 25. I'll do some more digging. It's been a long time since I was really digging on this and get back to you.

Thanks
Ken
