Hi Alan,
I have a old origional letter that was written late 1800's too 1900. My grandfather was writing it as it was being told to him by his mother ( Louisa Mathis) my Ggmother.
It states that John Mathis & Elezabeth Green Streak ran off,so they could spend their lives together , that she was a indian, they came from a place called the Big Sandy, traveled by canoue, landing on the east side of Indiana, near the Wabash river. There they raised a family of 7children. John, Marion, Wash, Bob, Easter, Maggie & Anna.
This letter was wrapped up with pictures of Indians & white, was given to my mother before the death of my grandfather, was then given to myself before my mothers death.
I have searched endlessly, I have not located any one that , that makes a connection . I have even tried the soundex, considered the census takers spelling, but all I really have is the old letter that stated her real name was Elezabeth Green Streak.
Hope to make a connection.
Pat

Find your inquiry of the name, "Streak" of interest. Believe Francis Streak, arrived in America, (MD) Aug, 1774, to be a relative. Shown on 1790 Census. Name also spelled, Streeks, and Streaks. My fathers ancestors. Would appreciate any information.

I only have a old orig letter, written late 1800's to 1900. It states Elezibeth Green Streak was her real name, that she ran with John Mathis off from the Big Sandy, traveled by conue to eastern Indiana near the Wabash River. There they started their lives together.
I have found a John J. Mathes married to Elizabeth ( UNKNOWN) that has many of the children I have been looking for. But no further info. on Elizabeth.
E-mail me your address if you would like a copy of the Origional letter .

Surnames: McQuiggan,
Hi Susan,
I know your post is old, but hopefully you'll read this anyway. My Gr-Grandfather was Charles McQuiggan who, I believe, had a younger brother John who both left Ireland via the Isle of Man around 1800. My Charles was born in the Belfast area of Ireland and I have found a Charles McQuiggan in the Isle of Man census as well -- wondering if that is him.
I don't have access to those census records any longer, but if you could check and see if a Charles is listed with your John that would be Great! My Charles immigrated to New York which is where my family is from. Would love to hear from you on what you find!
Best of luck to you on your search.

Hi Susan,
Hey I just posted a reply as well about my Gr-Grandfather Charles McQuiggan... just fyi -- in my searching I've also found McGuigan/Maguigan... but I'm not sure the "Guigan" surname is the same as Quiggan... so be a bit careful on that one. In some items I've found MaGuigan linked more to MaGuire and McQuiggan linked more to Quiggan and even Quinn... so... as I said, I'm not sure but just wanted to share that here.
