Jeff, thank you! Your reply is massively helpful as we weren't sure how to go about accessing some of the information we needed. It will be wonderful to uncover the detail: along with many other men who served in the world wars, my husband's grandfather said very little to his family about his time in the army, apparently, and died when my husband was still very young, so we know virtually nothing about his life between his departure from England and his marriage.
