Hi Michael, Are you the grandson of Phillip Lyndhurst D'Emden. I would agree that the spelling should be d'Emden (using French for 'of'). There is a Dutch website about the van Emdens where it would appear that the van Emdens were all Jewish. I didn't realise that Ann Gladwin (his wife) was Anglican. Must have been a big incentive for Hartog (Henri) to change. I understand that his son, Henri James, was a Congregational minister.
