Ben Clarke Was Killed Near Hammon
While Resisting Arrest
Elk City, Okla., March 11- Deputy Sheriff Moore of
Custer county shot and killed Ben Clarke of this
county, near Hammon, while Clarke was resisting
arrest. The sheriff and posse went out for the
purpose of arresting Clarke, his brother and four
others who were implicated in some offenses in
Custer county. All were arrested except Ben Clarke,
who met the officers with a Winchester, killing one
their horses. The gang to which Clarke belonged is
considered the worst in this country.
