I have been told that I am related to the Quantrill familly. My familly name is Cantwell, and I was told it was changed due to the acts of William Quantrill. Does anyone know any info on descendants of the Quantrill family?

In researching Quantrill has anyone ever came across the name R.P. Thrall? I know a Thrallkill is listed as one of the raiders but I can find no R.P. Thrall.

Mr. Thrall was born in Ohio but lived out the balance of his life after the Civil War on a piece of property now owned by my son. It was common knowledge here that Mr. Thrall had ridden with Quantrill. I even have a newspaper article from 1919 about his association with Q and there is a picture of Mr. Thrall as well.

Is anything know about the family of Nat Tigue? I have a book about Quantrill that has a list of men that served with him and one name in the list is Nat Tigue. Family stories abound about one ancestor (John Brummett) and most of my grandfather's generation consistently said this name had originally been Teague. Some have even said that he served with Quantrill. I would love to prove or disprove this story.

I am trying to find the Compiled Military Service Records of Lt. Dan Vaughn who was in Quantrill's company during the Civil War.

I am looking for his information so I can get him a military grave marker.

When I check the National Park Service website, he is not listed. But there is one listed simply as Vaughn.

Has anyone heard of Dan Vaughn?

Also, Does anyone know of a more reasonably priced alternative to purchasing these records from the National Archives?

List Of Quantrill's Raiders

My father always said that his ancestor, Isaac Ridgeway , rode with "The Missouri Bunch," but that would have been too late for his age, so wonder if he was listed as having rode with the Raiders. He supposedly was run out of Iowa in 1856 or 1857, to Missouri.

Is There A List of Victims?

I'm looking for a family named KEMP that was killed after the civil war by a group of men... carpetbaggers, jayhawkers, deserters, gangs, or whatever/whoever.

Is anyone aware of a list of people who fell victim to these types of groups after the war? The killing could have taken place in IL, MO, KY... generally that area.

There is a huge KEMP population on the western coast of the middle of IL, but it seems to me they would be too far north. Any thoughts on that?

I've searched census info and tried to find KEMP families in 1860 and compare them to KEMP families that weren't around in 1870, but am having no success because of the huge number of KEMPS! And of course, there's the possibility that KEMP could be KEMPF, CAMP, etc. The only clue I have concerning the ages of these KEMPs is by the lone surviving family member who was 7 years of age at the time. Anyone have other ideas on how to find this family?

Jack Bishop, Quantrill’s Raiders, Jesse James. Help please!

Can anyone provide me with information about the life of Jackson Carriger “Jack” Bishop. He was born in TN ca. 1840. He moved to Jackson Co., MO in 1860 with his family served with Quantrill’s Raiders, then in the 12 MO Cav., CSA, he moved to CO ca. 1869, was forced to leave after shooting some during a mining dispute in 1875. He resurfaced in 1877, he was living at Rest Ranch in Pecos, TX; Jesse James wrote him a letter on Jan 23, 1877, which was delivered there. He is mentioned in a Jesse James press release from 1879.

Any information would be appreciated!

List of Quantrill's Men, Was Great Grandfather there?

“ My great grandfather rode with Quantrill “ Let’s look at that statement did he really ride with Quantrill. When we hear that a family member rode with him we start looking for a list of Quantrill’s men in hoping to find that family member on it but when we don’t we may think the family story is not true. But hold up he may have after all you have to remember that there was more then one guerrilla gang. Quantrill’s gang had as little as 60 men and no then 300, most of the times 125. But when all the other guerrilla’s got together as a group it would be as high as 6,000 some say 10,000. When the guerrilla’s banded together Quantrill was the Commanding Officer most of the times. You have to remember he was a very fames man and to say you rode with him will that was something. Grandpa may have belonged to other guerrilla gang like Blooded Bill Anderson but when they group up with Quantrill he would be in Command, so grandpa’s statement was true after all. So if you hear that great grandfather rode with Quantrill and can’t find him you will have to look at all the other guerrilla gang’s.

The names of the men below all rode with Quantrill and many were guerrilla leader’s and had their own gang’s. I also have 140 names of Quantrill’s Missouri Regiment when he was in the C. S. A. army.

Most of these names below are Surnames only I have no first names.

Several years ago I had made contact with a man in Arkansas that knew the true story about Quantrill. His name was David Kennedy, a Ret. Police Investigator.
I tried to get him to give me more information on Quantrill, but he said before he released his book, he had only shared it with a person named Susan Hejka from Texas, and she signed a non disclosure agreement.
I have read some more things, and saw the movie Ride with The Devil, is there anything more to this?
I got some information on Quantrill and James Dalton from a friend. It looks like Dalton's grand daughter has sent David Kennedy a map to figure out. She had found it in the cover of a bible.
If anybody has an e mail address would you post it.

I have no one (that I know of) in Quantirll's Raiders.

I was doing a Google search on Quantrill's Raiders and found the book "Gray Ghost of the COnfederacy, by Richard S. Brownlee. It can be found at the Bushwacker Museum in Nevada, MO. The google search listed many, many of his men.

There was also a bookstore listed where the book could be purchased. Hope this helps someone.

All, Joshua is my great great grandfather and the Georges my great great uncles - I have lot's of information mainly on the Georges. I would like to know more about Joshua's life with the group - he is mainly lost to books because he died in 1870 some twenty years before the reunions began.

In my first post titled Who is Quantrill of April 20, 2005 . I’m sorry to say the title of my post was a little misleading instead of titling it ( Who is Quantrill ? ) it should of read ( Was it Quantrill ? ) for my posts was on a man who was arrested by the union and gave his name as hart then later Burgess it was later to be found out it may have been Quantrill? A statement was giving later by a man who know Quantrill and Burgess and stated that they were one and the same. In his statement he went on to say that Quantrill real name was Henry Volney Burgess born in Todd county Ky. History says differently. Who’s right? please reread my first post over again and give any input you like. Just to say I’m from Kansas and I do know about him.

The rulen.com list of Partisan Rangers shows a George Robinson who went to Kentucky with Quantrill and was hanged for murder by Union troops.

Does anyone have info on him, or a suggestion of sources where I might research data to identify this particular George Robinson?

Can anyone tell me the names of the men in Quantrell/Quantrill's Raiders? My gggrandfather was supposedly connected with this family. And also, does anyone have any information on the Harl P. Christie-Susan L. Cantrill marriage? I am grasping at straws, not finding Hiram Christy's name spelled twice, nor his pob or parents' pob listed the same way twice in the few census I can find on him. I just remember family members mentioning it over the years.
