Hello,
I am attempting to close some gaps in my research involving this branch of the DAIGLE family. I am trying to identify the events, names, places, dates and relationships that shaped their lives.Any help would be appreciated, especially any photos or newspaper articles, occupations, birth, wedding announcements, OBITS. Bibles, service records. Every detail helps. Perhaps you know of someone who shares my interests and could point me in that direction.I have these two articles.
1. Where Did The Daigles Come From by Written by Flo Daigle Perkins
and
2. A Historical Sketch of the Parish of Terrebonne, by E. C. Wurzlow, Deputy Clerk of Court, and Member of the Houma Town Council.
Alice Josephine Daigle is listed as born on St Eloi Plantation. Did this belong to her family? Was this a sugar plantation? What did her father do? Was he in shipping? Perhaps this is how she met her husband as his family had steamboats out of Memphis.
I have some old photos, but do not know who they all are. Thank you again for your time and attention.
Would love contact with relatives!
Lord Family

For many years I fruitlessly chased information about this man. He died in Warren County, Pa. in the 1860s. His naturalization papers said that he was born in Canada in 1806. For a long time, we couldn't even place his marriage, but eventually we discovered that he married Rachel Hill in 1831 in Addison County, Vermont. In the marriage license, his name was misspelled Love, a very easy mistake to make. Based on the history of the area, and that he spoke French, we believe that he is descended from the Lord family found just over the border in Blairfindie, an area where French Acadian's settled in the mid/late 1700s after their removal in 1755, between the Vermont border and Montreal.

His middle or first name may have been Benjamin. His children were named (not in birth order) Curtis Benjamin, William Henry, Maria, Tunis, A.D or Adin, Solomon Jehiel, Minerva, Franklin (Francois), Nathaniel, Mary, Marella.

If anyone has any information about Lore/Lord families in this area of Canada around the year 1800, I'd be very grateful for any assistance.

I have done the DNA test on my Lore family and it is available at www.familytreedna.com/public/lore and I'm hoping that perhaps a Lord male will test so we can see if these two families are one and the same. In the early Acadian records I also found it spelled L'Or.

Roberta Estes
restes@comcast.net

World's oldest Acadian descendant passes away: Sr. Annie Samson

SAMSON, Sister Anne - Passed away in Provincial House of Les Filles de Jesus, 553 Elmwood Dr., Moncton, New Brunswick at the respectable age of 113 years, and in her 87th year of religious profession. According to the latest studies, she was the 8th oldest person on the planet. Born in Riviere-Bourgeois, Nova Scoitia on February 27, 1891, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Samson and Philomene Bourque. She had survived her five sisters and four brothers. However, she has nieces and nephews who have expressed the wish to assist at her funeral. Sister Anne made her Normal School in Truro around 1912. She then taught on Cape Breton Island, mostly in Poulamond, on Isle Madame. At the age of 24, she entered the novitiate at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec and became a Fille de Jesus nun in 1917. Sr. Anne spent her teaching career in Arichat (23 years) and Cheticamp (7 years). From 1947 on, her health somewhat failing her, she had to quit teaching and take a time of rest. In as much as her strength allowed her, she filled various offices in Trois-Rivieres, Nash Creek, Dalhousie and Moncton. She took her retreat at the Provincial House in Moncton in 1967. No one would have guessed that she would have such a long retreat. In 1991, she celebrated her 100th birthday, and we had the joy of having her with us 13 more years. At times, she wondered if the Good Lord had not forgotten her on this earth. Sr. Anne was very talented and composed poems and songs for different occasions, some even after her 100th birthday. However, from 1986 on, she was unable to walk due to a hip fracture. And since 2003, she was bedridden. She was called to meet her Saviour on Monday, November 29. The remains are resting today from 2-9 p.m. in Provincial House, 553 Elmwood Dr., Moncton from where the funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe, New Brunswick. Reported in the Halifax Herals, 1 Dec 2004

need help with Dupuis/Prejean research

I am trying to find the correct line for Marguerite Dupuis. Were her parents Francois Dupuis and Marguerite Prejean or Marguerite Pregeant/Pregent? Marguerite was born about 1753, not sure about the birthplace. Are Prejean and Pregeant different families? Marguerite Dupuis married Joseph Duhamel on Sept. 23, 1771 in Contrecoeur, Vercheres County and died (same place) on August 12, 1832. Any help would be appreciated.

Arvis

I am hoping some of you can help me with a paper I am writing for a university research class I am in. I am a descendant of some very early Nova Scotians (mid-1600s French), so this is a meaningfull subject to me. I would appreciate having the following questions answered by anyone interested:
1. Are you familiar with the historical event referred to as the Acadian Diaspora or Le Grande Dérangement? If so, what is your understanding of the event?

2.Do you have an ancestor associated with this event? If yes, is that ancestor English, French, Indian or of another ethnic group? What was his or her involvement?

3.In your personal opinion, do you consider this historical event an example of ethnic cleansing?

4.By what means are you familiar with this event? i.e. school, personal research or ancestry, live in an area affected by this event, etc.

5.Are you aware of or familiar with the statements made by the current Queen of England regarding this event?

6.What is your understanding of the survival of the Acadian / Cajun culture?

I really appreciate your help! I would like to compile the results from this survey on August 1.
Je vous remercie!
Shawna

Migration from Quebec to Louisiana

I am looking for information on some possible ancestors who immigrated from Quebec to Louisiana in the early to mid-1700s. My primary interest is in the family of Jacques ROUILLARD dit ST. CYR, married to Genevieve TROTTAIN dit ST. SURIN in Batiscan in 1702. I believe one or more of his sons migrated to Louisiana, but I cannot prove that. I know that members of the family of Edmond ROY dit CASTELLEREAU appeared at sacramental events in the lives of the ROUILLARDS in Quebec, and also showed up in Louisiana in the same parish as Joseph ROUILLARD dit ST. CYR. Other names I am interested in are Francois DESCARREAUX (Montreal?), Robert LAVIGNE and Jean MILLET.

Have there been any sytematic studies of migration from Quebec to Louisiana during the 1700s?

Thanks in advance,
Matt Sanders

I don't have anything far enough back on Prejean to go beyond 1930 cutoff date but I do need some assistance (s'il vous plait) on Landry.

The furthest back I go is
Rene Landry m. Marquerite Marie Terriot/Theriot.
Their son Olivier Landry (b. 1752; d. 11 Feb 1807 SM Louisiana) m. Marie Madeleine HEBERT (no info on her or parents).

They have five children:
Jean-Henri (b. 25 Mar 1781, d. 26 Nov 1832),
Oliver Landry,
Achilles Landry,
Fabian Landry,
Raphael Landry (b. 20 Jan 1786, d. bef 1860).

Jean-Henri Landry marries into my family at this time: Marie-Elisa (Marie-Louise) Begnaud. His brother Raphael also marries the Elisa (Louise)'s sister Marie-Adele Begnaud.

Any additional info on Landry or Hebert would be wonderful. merci bien

Hello - Am seeking any information on the surname VIENNE. Of particular interest to me is who was the first Vienne to arrive in the USA and when and where that might have been.
I was able to trace five generations back to Francois Alfred Vienne born 4 Jan 1813 in New Orleans.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

He migrated to Bay St Georges area Newfoundland he was married 2 or 3 times, the last marriage to Alice Dennis
he had 3 children in that marriage Charles, Henry and Margaret.
I have no Idea on who his parents were.
Chaisson / Chiasson

Hi Diane and Louise
I caught the name Sylvain Chiasson / Chaisson - and I have a Sylvain Chiasson in my Buote tree !
This maybe useful or not - but thought I would post it to you both
1. Sylvain Chiasson - b: 1832, Tignish, PEI, Lot # 1, Bap: 1835, Tignish, PEI, Married (1) Philomene Richard, (2) Francoise Gaudet, on Nov 7, 1854, Tignish, PEI
2. Sylvain 's parents were: Juliette Buote and Jean Chiasson born abt. 1807(son of Jean Chiasson and Agnes Poirier)
3. Sylvain's grandparents were: Michel Buote and Barbe Martin
Michel Buote was born Sept 30, 1785 in Saint Pierre et Miquelon- a small island called Island of Saint Pierre ( off the coast of Newfoundland- south of Grand Bank - and Fortune Bay, Newfoundland - it was owned by the French in the 1700's and most of my Buote clan fled there after the explusion by the English) I wonder if Miquelon is part of the Magdalen Islands - as its 800 miles off the southern coast of newfoundland - which is pretty close to the Magdalen Islands ! Do you know ???
Michel 's parents Francois Jean Buot and his grandparents (Pierre Buhot) came from Beaubassin !!!! Thats what caught my eye was Beaubassin !
I also have a Marguerite Boudreau in the tree as well - but no dates or info on her. Did Edwin have a sister named Marguerite?

Hope this helps - not sure if there is a connection or not - watch the spelling of the last name of Chiasson / Chaisson = I am told they are both one in the same -
Hope this was the right info given to me
Take care
Ivy
Hi All
I found some info back in the spring about some of the 1750's Buote's (Buhot's) who fled the English during the expulsion and went from Rustico, PEI to St. Louis PEI - they were hiding in the woods and the Indians took them in and gave them clothes and food.

I seem to have lost the info somewhere and was wondering if anyone else out there has this information ? I am trying to link the Buote's to the Micmac Indians of Lennox Island, PEI.

The Buote's lived with the Indians and stayed up and around Tignish, PEI and this is where my line descends from.

If anyone knows of any sort of info on the net regarding the Buhot's / Buote's - please contact me at ivychevy@hotmail.com

Thank you
Ivy

ACADIAN FAMILIES TO L'ACADIE, QUEBEC

Following the Grand Derangement of 1755 the Acadian families were evacuated to numerous locations. Many of them were deported to the Atlantic Coast of the British colonies, including a large number to Massachusetts. The French text booklet "L'Acadie et son Eglise" by Pierre Brault states that a number of these deportees were gathered in Boston and an effort was made to translant them to Quebec. They proceeded to Albany, along the Mohawk Trail, via Lake Champlain and descended the Richelieu River to Fort St. Jean, from whence they were allowed to settle at the place now known as L'Acadie, in the Richelieu Valley, south and east of Montreal.Among these people were the following families identified by the author: BOUDREAU, BOURGEOIS, BRAULT, CIRE (CYR}, CLOUATRE, COMEAU, DUPUIS (DUPUY), GAUDIN (GODIN), GRANGER, HEBERT, LANDRY, LANOUE, LEBLANC, RICHARD, TRAHAN. Also mentioned, and possibly coming later (my translation is faulty) were BRUN, GODREAU (GAUDREAU), THIBODEAU, "etc" (indicating others).

I am searching for info on Victor Blanchard, formerly a resident of Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish. The 1890 census indicates that he was a native of France. After receiving a dispensation, he married Dolores Vacarisse in September of 1881 in the Donaldsonville Catholic church. They had seven children between the years of 1882 and 1894; only two of their children, Justine Emilie (married Leonce Gautreau) and Joseph (married Lyola King of Terrebonne Parish) had surviving progeny. Victor was a baker, and he died on 28 April 1895 at the age of 39 years.
I'm looking for a particular Doucette. His name is Theodule Doucette. He was born sometime in 1868. most likely in St Anne-du-Russeau NS. Canada. Possibly Three Rivers PQ. He married Hermaine Boudreau (or a variation of the spelling) about 1891-92. They moved to Lowell Mass. between 1895 and 1899. He had 5 children Aime, Laure, Joseph Everett, Edward and Arsidas (aka Raymond) Possibly in his later years he moved to Bridgeport Conn. Based on a picture I have of Theodule with his grandson (my father) I'd have to assume he died after 1934 If anyone knows of him, or his wife, or his children, please drop me a line at RuDou2@webtv.net
Thanks alot!

Does anyone know if Louisiana law says a divorced woman who marries a second time uses her maiden name on the marriage licence/certificate? Some of my ancestors were divorced women who remarried -- at least I think they did since their children were born under the paternal surname and a census lists the couple as head of household and wife. For example, my mother's grandfather, William Matthews, was the second husband of Nathalie Tourne', and she was in the 1900 census in New Orleans with her first husband William Bailey. By 1902, Nathalie and William Matthews have a child born to them, Nathalie Matthews [listed in the 1920 Orleans, LA, census].
I haven't always found a marriage record in the State Archives for marriages....

* My first road block, Marie Alice RANDOLPH b. ca. 1863 d. ca Jan. 1888 Pine Prairie, LA. Any and all information needed.

** My second road block, Nancy O'Dwyer, m/o Marie Alice RANDOLPH. Any and all information needed.

Almost all of my ancestors were originally from Canada, or France and eventually settled in southwest Louisiana. I have access to most of Father Hebert's books, and I give him so much credit for making my research so much easier. Without him, I would have probably already given up! I hope to hear from anyone who thinks their lines may connect, or ESPECIALLY, if they have info on * and **.

Stephanie (Young)Inge
Dallas, TX

Michel Ritter-husband of Barbe Cor

(please send any email to address at the bottom of message)
I am searching for any information on Michel Ritter who resided in St Landry Parish in late 1700's. He was married to Marie Barbe Corr. My understanding is that there were actually 2 Michel Ritters in the same time period who ,according to posted dates and other facts, cannot be the same person, or even related.I can discuss that theory further in private with anyone who is interested. (Several generations had a "Michel". The one I am searching for was born between 1749 and 1755, possibly on the German Coast). ..
If any one has any information on this person and would like to share it with me, it would be most appreciated. ( My maiden name is Ryder, from Baton Rouge, La )If I can be of assistance with the same family line, please don't hesitate to ask.
I know he, personally, was not French or Acadian, but he had inlaws that were (Bogarde, Foret,Fontenot,Boudrot, De Lafosse, St Cyr, etc) and he and his family lived in the"Cajun" community for generations. The spellings of Ritter are varied, but we do have copy of a document that contains his signature, and it is spelled RITTER.
Thank you very much!
A. Ryder Thomason, student of GBR genealogy class
athomason@eatel.net

Hello! I am an Acadian descendant. My question to the group is, has anyone heard of the name Beausault? This was my great-grandfather's name. I was always told he was from New Brunswick, Canada, but he may have come from Nova Scotia. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
