Current looking for family of William and Adiline Behtel. The Bethels seem to be from a large family with lots of males. they seem to have originated in NC, not sure what city though. In the 1870, and 1880 census the were living in Como and Listed as mulatto. I am not sure when and where William died, but Adiline died in IL in the 1930's.
Please help if you can....

Thnak you very much. They moved from Como sometimes between 1911and 1920... In 1930, Adiline was living with a grand daughter in Cairo Illinois, William was deceased.

Greetings Gerri,

Most of the family moved to Alexander or Pulaski County Illinois. And several moved to Kentucky..

Does the last name ring a bell with your mother?

Susan

Attempting to link Dock Bethel b. 1857, NC to your William or Adeline Bethels in Como, MS. Dock is listed on the 1900 census of Panola County, MS. Married to Millie Weakley (my ancestor). Dock and Millie's children are Cannon, Maxey, Sammie, Malindy, Goldenia, and Osca. If you find any links of Dock to your Bethels, let me know.

I actually found your William and Adeline on the same 1900 Census and just houses from my Dock and his family. There are 4 family houses of Bethel's right next to each other.

F1 Bethel, William-HOH, B, M, Oct 1854,
Married 25 years, born NC,
mother and father born NC
Adeline-wife, B, F, May 1859,
Married 25 years, 2 children living, born MS, m&f b. MS

F2 Bethel, Marshall-HOH
Wife Henrietta

F3 Bethel, Edd-HOH
Wife Lena
Son Cleveland
In-law Henrietta Hall

F4 Bethel, Dock-HOH
Wife Millie
With the children I mentioned before.

I am sure the Heads of the house are related somewhere, but can't find the connection. They could be brothers.

According to the 1880 Census of Panola County, William and Adeline are the parents of Marshall and Eddie.

Dock might be short for Dodson Bethel. Check the 1870 census.
