Her mother was Marriana Peralta, her father was Rafael and mother Caterina Manriguez.

On the other side, from the Culver City area, Felipa F.Yorba married Juan Farias, whose father was Jose Farias and mother Tomasa Talamantes, her Grandpa was Felipe Talamantes. They owned the Spanish landgrant La Ballona.

Get in touch with me at evabooher@aol.com if you are a
relative.

Eva

Has anyone connected the Juan Manuel Vaca, founder of Vacaville, with the early explorer Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca.

My son and I are researching Cabeza de Vaca for a school report and I've found what looks like a sketchy trail of his descendants from Cadiz, Spain, to Mexico City, then up to New Mexico were Juan Manuel Vaca and family moved to San Bernardino, California in 1841 with the Rowland-Workman expedition.

We've found plenty of interesting facts about Cabeza de Vaca, but we'd like to verify the trail of his descendants in general (no great details needed) before we put anything in the report.

Thank you, Valerie
Los Californianos #1734

Francisco Solano (1825-1870?) in Los Angeles

Does anyone have information about the death of Francisco Solano? Newmark has a reference to him in 'Sixty Years in California': "Possessed as he was of an unusual sense of rectitude, I esteemed Francisco Solano, father of Alfredo Solano, for his many good qualities. He was in the butcher business in Sonora Town, and was prosperous in the early fifties."

He does not appear in either the 1860 or 1870 US Federal Census returns for Los Angeles; his wife, Rosa Casanova, appears to be a widow in 1870, although the return is suspect for a number of reasons. I can find neither of them in 1860.

I would greatly appreciate any information one may have, along with the source material.

Best wishes,
Lawrence Bouett
San Diego, California

The Romo family of Goleta, California

My father Henry Albert Romo. He was born in Santa Barbara in 1903, the son of Henry Albert Romo and Virginia Ruiz. I can trace Virginia's ancestors back to Efigenio Ruiz, Felipe de Goicoechea, Santiago Pico, Juan Maria Romero, Jose Francisco Velasco Lara, and many other early California pioneers, but I reach a dead end on the Romo line. My grandfather Henry T. Romo's parents were Francisco Rafael Romo and Maria Jesus Higuera. Maria Jesus like Virginia Ruiz came from an old Santa Barbara family that went to Alta California in the late seventeen-hundreds. but Francisco was a "late " arriver. He was born somewhere in Mexico on April 03, 1825. He married Maria Jesus Higuera in Santa Barbara on January 27, 1851, Between that time and 1876 they had 11 sons and one daughter. Francisco had a ranch in Goleta, which remained in the family until about 1930. My sister has information that suggest that Francisco's parents were Ramon Feliz Romo, who was born some where in Mexico in about 1790, and Faustina Feliz who was born in Mexico about 1800. According to my sisters story Francisco and a brother left Mexico for New Mexico, where they parted company with Franciso going on to California , and his brother heading somewher to the east.

I would appreciate any information that could be provided to me about this line of my ancestry.

My grandparents were divorced when my father was a small boy. My dad was raised by his father and grandmother, so I have no information about her. I know she remarried, but I don't know the name of her second husband , nor anything about her second family. Any information along those lines would also be apprecisted. Her parents were Lorenzo Lugardo Florencio Ruiz and Maria Delfreido Pico.

Thank you,
Bill Romo

Re: Briones Family

I am researching my husband's family,I did do some looking when we lived in Ca.but I have hit a brick wall, the Briones family that I am concerned with were from Vicente Briones, I was told by my husbands great Aunt that she was the daughter of or at least was adopted and raised by Pablo Briones who was the grandson of Marcos Briones and the great grandson of Vicente Briones.I traveled to San Francisco and on to Marin,County with her several times, and she introduced me to several people whose last names were Briones, one who lived to be well over 100 years old,in fact I have a picture of this person.
My question to you is,do you have any information on this family? I would appreciate anything that you can help me with.
Thank you
Betty Kingsbury

Espinoza, Espinosa

-i,
For years we have searched for what happened to my husband's gr gr grandmother, Maria Angelita de los Angeles Espinosa, born 19 Aug 1863, baptised at La Soledad, married Jose Ramon Domingo Bonilla, 17 Sept 1862, in Watsonville, Santa Cruz. The family story is Jose Ramon left her shortly after the birth of their son Jose Fabio in 1870. I think I have found her in an 1880 census but there are discrepancies in names. She is ennumerated in San Mateo, Township 3, and is listed as simply "Angeles Espinoza " There is with her a Joseph R. who could be Jose Ramon, Jr, and an Alexander who would be my husband's gr grandfather, as well as a Mercy B who could be their sister Mercedes, and a Flabino who could be Jose Fabio. All the ages are right. Does anyone have information about this family? We would like to find her death record. It is not under her married name of Bonilla. Apparently she reverted to her maiden name Espinosa or the the ennumerator did not understand Spanish naming patterns.
Gail

Maria Antonia married Jose Nacario (Nazario) Dominguez, the son of Christobol Dominguez, of Rancho San Pedro, brother to Manuel. Maria Antonia m. Nacario abt 1836. I always thought she was from the Castrelo's found around San Jose, or San Francisco areas, but on the 1880 Census she listed "lower California" as place of birth. Help... Does anyone know anything about this lady, or possibly who were her family? All I know is connected after she married into the Dominguez family. Any help would be appreciated. My line comes down thru their daughter Maria Luisa Dominguez.
