I am trying to research family history.
My paternal grandmother's name, on my father's birth certificate is: Bertha Burke.
It says she was born in Portsmouth Ohio, in 1875. My father told me that she was born Gypsy, and that she had been raised by an adoptive family.
Some months ago, a professor from the University of Texas gave a presentation on Gypsies at the Houston Holocaust Museum. I showed him a photograph of my grandmother and he immediately recognized her facial characteristics as being those of the "Stanley" tribe of Gypsies in Ohio.
Is it possible that you have either records or old photographs which I could compare with? If you are willing, I can send a scan of her picture.
Thanks so much.
Michael
