Hi Neighbor! :-)
If you are new to the game, have you thought about joining the Wichita Genealogical Society? Admittedly there is not much Iowa research going on, but the society just started a series of ten classes, held every other Saturday, at the Evergreen branch library. The purpose behind the classes is to help the beginner get started, and the cost is $5 per class. If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you a schedule of classes. The first one was just this last Saturday and the next one is scheduled for February 28.
The regular quarterly meeting of the society is to be this next Saturday at 1:00 PM, also at Evergreen. Our speaker this next Saturday is our local public library genealogical librarian and her subject will be the organization of Kansas as a territory 150 years ago. You would be welcomed with open arms if you are interested in seeing what the organization is all about because the program is open to the public.
You might be surprised at how transportable to different states tips on Kansas research techniques can be. Society membership costs $15 a year, but don't let that dissuade you from being our guest at this next Saturday's regular quarterly meeting.
Fritz
