Good Evening once again.......................
Thank you once again for the information you provided about Thomas Stevenson. The only court information I have regarding Thomas is a case in New Haven in 1643. You've provided me with another puzzle piece regarding another court case.
My search has been on going for over 20 years. I could never get past the date 1663, Thomas Stevens, Southampton, LI, NY. I discovered an article written for the Suffolk County Historical Society dated Spring 1995 written by Henry B Hoff and Harry Macy. They connected Thomas Stevens of Southampton to his father Thomas Stevenson from Newtown. The article provided information regarding his marriage and much confusion with another Thomas Stevenson same period who was possibly a cousin.
I've been through numerous ship lists on line finding a Thomas who arrived in Virginia and another in New England aboard the Abigail. I have Thomas starting out in Southold, LI, moving to Hempstead around 1647 then eventually to Mespeth.
I also have a copy of the book, "Thomas Stevenson and family of Greater London", written in 1903. According to Macy and Hoff the author John Stevenson has confused the family arrangement. I've been unable to find any good source material for the years 1647-1662. Rikers' "Annals of Newtown"...I only bits and pieces. I thought about joining the Holland Society but my reasons would have been purely selfish and I'm located to far from NYC to really be involved....and that's providing I would be accepted.
I did look at your book titles on Olive Tree. Yes, I would believe you have a special affection for New Netherland.
I would be interested in your opinion regarding Thomas and his many court cases. My thought is his family were possibly investors in the new world ventures. My other thought was he was an adventurer possibly a one time mercenary working for Captain Underwood. My search goes on....thanks again for your input.
