Hi,
I descend from Mary Elizabeth Haney/Honey. She married Andrew Cherry, Apr. 13, 1837, Antis Twp., Huntingdon Co., Pa., by Edward Bell, Esq.
The description of Elizabeth given by her grandson, Thomas V. Morris: short, fat and curly red hair. (Of course this would have been in later life.) She was a protestant and went to the Presbyterian church in Holidaysburg, Pa. Andrew was a catholic and this distinction between their religions was apparently maintained throughout their lives.

THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN BLAIR COUNTY,.... In 1788 a church was organized and a building erected for permanent worship, within the bounds of the present cemetery. Rev. David Bard was the first pastor, and the church was known as the Presbyterian Church of "Frankstown" though it was changed to Hollidaysburg in 1845. Afterwards, as Hollidaysburg became the head of canal navigation and grew rapidly in population, a large brick church was built on the site of the present church, and was used by a constantly growing congregation until 1869, when the present edifice was completed, though it was not dedicated until 1887....... ]

OBITUARY FOR ELIZABETH (HANEY) Cherry

Suddenly Called Away

Mrs. Elizabeth Cherry found dead in an upper room at her home on 9th Street this morning. Last night some of the children and other friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Cherry, who made her home at 1211 9th Street were with her until well in the neighborhood of 10 o'clock, and left her
as they supposed in her usual good health, as she had made no complaint whatever during the time they were with her.
This morning, about half past nine o'clock some of these same friends who lived near by, seeing no stir about her house, proceeded to make and investigation and finding all the doors locked, and not seeing her they proceeded to effect an entrance through a window. The lower part of the
house was cold and deserted, and the search was continued to the upper apartments, in a back room of which, lying on her face in a corner and cold in the embrace of death, was the one they sought.
By her side was a hammer, and a partially raised window, which seemed to indicate that she had gone upstairs to close some open windows and otherwise prevent their being rattled by the wind storm, and while thus engaged had been suddenly stricken with apoplexy or some kindred disease,
and all alone had expired at once and without a struggle.
Mrs. Cherry was in her 77th year and was the widow of the late Andrew Cherry, well remembered by many of our people, and whose death came in the same unheralded way about nine years ago.
She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Amanda Evans, of Houtzdale, and John A. and Calvin S. Cherry, Mrs. Leah Barger and Mrs. Clara Morris all of this city, besides a number of brothers, sisters and other friends scattered through various portions of the country.

Mrs. Clara Morris, was my 2great-grandmother. It is interesting to note, that Clara had a grandson,Earl A. Morris, that also had curly, red hair. He has always been referred to in the family as 'Uncle Curly'.

Now question for you...how do you attribute George HANEY and Elizabeth Monchin to being the parents of Mary Elizabeth (HANEY) Cherry? We thought we had a lead years ago as to her parents...but now we think the possibility is George and Elizabeth HANEY, but no proof yet? Do you have anything?
