To Steve, or whoever else might be reading this:
My name is Jim Beer, and if you're still trying to find our family's legitimate coat of arms I think I have it for you. If you want to take a look at house of names.com, the one they show looks fairly accurate.
The fact is that one of my aunts did some intense research about our family history several years ago in honor of my great-grandfather, Robert Beer, who came to the United States from Chemnitz, Germany in the late 1800's.
During her search, she found our coat of arms (I believe from Robert's records in Germany). And, while the coat of arms shown on "houseofnames" is similar to it, there is at least one difference...
The leaping bear is accurate, and almost perfectly matches the coat of my arms my aunt located during those years of research. And yes, there are some similar embellishments around it. The biggest difference though, is the knights helmet "houseofnames" shows above it. That was evidently added by their artist.
In closing, if you'd like to contact me about this, you're welcome to do so. I'll look forward to helping you out. And yes, I'd be happy to send you at least a facsimile of the image I have of our coat of arms. I hope it helps you!
With best regards,
Jim Beer
