Need info from Gilbert Doane's "Searching....."

I loaned out my book and it was never returned. I am in need of the chart numbering system outlined by Doane. It had something to do with...from (on a 5 gen chart) person #1 thru #8... continued on chart #....; Doane had a numbering system that used an indiviudal's ancestor number linking to the continuation chart. Sorry if this seems confusing, but I am trying to help my 5th grade granddaughter chart her father's family and I forgot how Doane explained this. Thanks in advance to anyone who provides the answer!
