The easiest way to get the info off of an old tombstone is to take a sheet of newsprint (found at craft stores)and crayons. Tape or get someone to hold the sheet of newsprint over the front of the stone tightly. Remove the paper from a dark colored crayon. Using the long side edge of the crayon, rub the crayon over the newsprint, picking up the inscription on the newsprint. Do not use crayon directly on the stone. Parachute material or butcher paper works well if you don't want to use or can't find newsprint. You can also use wide edged carpenter pencils.
