For your information -- WRC stood for Women's Relief Corps (National), a patriotic organization that became the official auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic in July of 1883. This organization was open to all women, regardless of kinship, and was headquartered in Springfield, Illinois.

Many of the historical societies have Surname files with genealogical information relating to local families. This is a good source to check when searching for those hard-to-find ancestors.

Membership in Jamestowne Society

Through Capt. Raileigh Croshaw I am eligible for membership in the Jamestowne Society. I understand I need to mke contact with a chapter, close by I would hope, and become acquainted with the members who would then consider sponsoring me.

Would someone please share the locations of California chapters to that I can assemble my credentials for application for membership.

There is a new Historical Society for Newport, Maine and surrounding area, it is located at 161 Mian St. 3rd floor,use elevator, Newport. it is run by volenteers,open Saturdays May thru November 1st 10:00-2:00

Tracing my heritage

Several months ago,I requested information on tracing my lineage. My family history includes such figures as - Richard the Lion Hearted,Eric the Red,Vlad the Impaler,Montague JohnDruitt(suspected of the Jack the Ripper incidents),Adolf Hitler,& Genghis Khan.There is also some gypsy in my family.Is there a society that can help me with my research?
How would I find out more about the lineage of these historic figures.I would appreciate assistance with my research.

Society for War of 1812

Does anyone know how (and what it costs) to get records from the United States Daughters of War of 1812? I found my ancestor, James Wells b: 1792 in NH who served from 1812-1815. The index did not indicate if he served in New Hampshire .. could have been New York or Vermont. It only indicated that he was a Captain in the Calvary. Any help would be appreciated.
