Samuel Fuller (Pilgrim) lines that run through Lucy Ann Fuller daughter of Noah

I'm am looking for the Samuel Fuller line that runs through Lucy Ann Fuller, b. 1811, daughter of Noah Fuller who is the son of Zadock. She married Nicholas OMealy in New York and had son Thomas OMealy who married Mary Elizabeth Nichols in Wisconsin. Mary Elizabeth's parents were William A. Nichols b. 1807, and Charity M. Hewitt. Mary Elizabeth and Thomas OMealy had a number of children including Mary Edna OMealy who married Joel Christopher Ferguson, in Richland County, WI. When was Mary Elizabeth Nichols born and when did she die? And where? When did she move from NY to WI? Any information about the line most appreciated.

Cooke descendants from the Mayflower

I am descended from Francis Cooke of the Mayflower. I know some of those descendants were well-known in the Ottawa area early in the 1900's and the 1800's. I believe the Cookes were United Empire Loyalists and went into Canada shortly after the Revolutionary War. Alanson Cooke was a M.of Parliament. His sister, Polly, married Orange Wesley Cummings around the 1830's. Orange Wesley,Jr., settled around North Nation Mills, Que. and raised his family there in the later 1800's. Anyone with this sort of a background PLEASE contact me as I have lost connection with these ancestors!! Evelyn

Re: MAYFLOWER CONNECTIONS--Starr--Brewster-- Gadd

Hi, I was surfing the Indiana message board and just by chance entered the "Starr" surname. On my hubby's side there is a Samuel Starr listed b.9/5/1812 in Union Co. Indiana. He married a Nancy Etcheson. They had the following children- Ithamer Starr (his family follows thru Ithamer), Sarah Starr, Nancy Starr, Mary Starr, Leander Starr, Selena Starr Jesse John Starr, LaAnna Starr. Since you indicated you had a very large Starr listing, maybe sometime you could let me know if there is any connection. Thanks, Deb Smith

mtDNA and Richard Warren, John Cooke, and Francis Cooke

We are descended from Richard Warren, John Cooke and Francis Cooke through Sarah Warren (Richard's daughter, John's wife, and Francis' daughter-in-law). We haven't proved it yet, but we are in the process of doing so and we believe we are very close.

The line is an all-female one from Sarah (Warren) Cooke through my paternal grandmother:
- Sarah (Warren) Cooke
- Mary (Cooke) Taber
- Esther (Taber) Brownell
- Esther (Brownell) Tefft
- Ruth (Tefft) Kenyon
- Mary (Kenyon) Terry
- Esther (Terry) Barber
- Altana (Barber) Hoag
- Emma (Hoag) Smith
- Elizabeth (Smith) Coulthard
- my paternal grandmother

So my paternal grandmother should have the same mtDNA as Sarah (Warren) Cooke.

My dad just did a Y-DNA67+mtDNAPlus test on familytreedna.com. We plan to submit the results to the Mayflower DNA project at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/mayflower%20society/

We're looking for others with all female lines going back to Sarah (Warren) Cooke (and therefore Richard Warren, John Cooke, and Francis Cooke). Hoping that you might consider doing the mtDNA test.

Are the Silver Books accepted as documentation for the first five generations or is it better to use them as research and find the primary documents? Also, what about sources like the Barbour Collection, Arnold Collection and the Massachusetts Town Vital Records books? Should these only be used for research? Thanks

Need advice on documentation

Please read and offer your advice/suggestions even if this is not your line.

I am attempting to prove my line as follows:
Francis Cooke
John Cooke/Sarah Warren
Sarah Cooke/Arthur Hathaway
John Hathaway/Joanna Pope
Arthur Hathaway/Maria Luce
Simon Hathaway/Hannah Clifton
Simon Hathaway/Eunice Wing
Simon Wing Hathaway/Sarah Elizabeth Braxton
Ann Elizabeth Hathaway/John Hewett
Emma Rentha Hewett/George Thomas Curry
Missouri Jane Curry/Coley Wilson
Mary Evelyn Wilson/Herman F. Lumpkin
me

My problem lies with the generation of Ann Elizabeth Hathaway/John Hewett. Her father, Simon Wing Hathaway, b.1 April 1793, MA, moved south, eventually settling in Holmes County, FL. The book "Hathaways of America" claims to list his children from the 1850 Dale County, AL census. However, they show that Sarah Elizabeth Hathaway married John Hewett, and that another daughter, Emily Elizabeth, married Zachariah Ard. It seems that everyone who has posted genealogy online for this family has accepted what the book says. The 1850 Dale Co., AL census shows a SARAH E., and an ELIZABETH, with no middle names. Everything I find points to Sarah E. having married Zachariah Ard, and Elizabeth having married John Hewett.

I have contacted the Hathaway Family Association twice in an attempt to get clarification. I received one response, which was sort of a 'Ha-Ha, we call that area (SE Alabama, NW Florida) the Bermuda Triangle of genealogy.'

I would appreciate input as to how I should go with this. Please respond to list, or my email at nancyc2@hughes.net.
Thanks, Nancy Coan
Francis Cooke lineage through Jemima Gary Washburn into Ontario, Canada

I am just working on my application to the Mayflower Society as a direct desc. of Francis Cooke, through seventh generation Jemima Gary Washburn 1754-1830 and her husband Robert Perry Senior, U.E.L. 1751-1830. This lineage has already been recognized by the Society to this seventh generation. Jemima and Robert were both born in Massachusetts but fled to Ontario, Canada during the American Revolution with their families, via Vermont and then into Quebec.

Jemima and Robert had ten known children so if my application is approved, I hope this will open the door to other persons in same lineage to become members. I descend from their eldest son Robert Perry Junior 1772-1856 and his wife Esther Aylesworth 1776-1803; the younger Robert was a Methodist minister. He was married three times and had six children with his second wife my ancestor Esther Aylesworth, and twelve more with his third wife Sally Sine.

My lineage from Francis Cooke is:

Daughter Jane Cooke and Experience Mitchell
Daughter Elizabeth Mitchell and John Washburn
Son James Washburn and Mary Bowden
Son James Washburn and Elizabeth Leonard
Son Simeon Washburn and Jemima Gary
Daughter Jemima Gary Washburn and Robert Perry
Son Robert Perry Jr. and Esther Aylesworth
Daughter Esther P. Perry and Davis Hawley
Son Peter Perry Hawley and Leah Elizabeth Fox
Daughter Julia Ann Hawley and Hiram Keech and from there my grandparents, etc.

I have worked a fair bit on the Ontario families, so if anyone needs info about them please write to me.

Nora in Alberta, Canada
John Alden line down to Manchester's in Rhode Island

I am looking for anyone who might know where to find documentation on the birth of Fanny Manchester who was born to John Manchester and Rebecca Christopher in 1802 in Rhode Island. I am attemtpting to join the Mayflower Society through the Manchester line. The line Goes from John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, to Elizabeth Alden and William Pabodie, to Martha Pabodie and Samuel Seabury, to Joseph and Phebe Seabury to Martha Seabury and Benjamin Manchester, to Nathaniel Manchester and Elizabeth Cox, to John Manchester and Rebecca Christopher, to Fanny Manchester and William Reynolds...... I am a Reynolds. The Rhode Island Vital Record shows the births of all her siblings. She is the only one missing. Any Ideas??? Ironically she is just about the last link I need to make to submit my application so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative.

Tami Reynolds
tl.reynolds@comcast.net

I am a descendant of Richard and Elizabeth (Walker)Warren's son Nathaniel and would be interested in learning more. Apparently, Nathaniel had a daughter Mercy who married Jonathan Delano. I have my direct Delano line of male descendants down to my great grandmother, Cora Delano, but not most of their wives. I believe Jonathan is either the son or grandson of Phillip Delano who came over on the Fortune. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My maternal Great-Grandmother was Mildred Josephine Brewster - Moore, born 1903 Illinois to William H Brewster born 1866 or there abouts in Ohio - he was married to Nettie M ?.

Mildred claimed up/down that we were Mayflower descendants. I can't however get past her father William. If anyone here with knowledge of the lines can help me either confirm or deny this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Anna Maria Brewster (1830-1894; NY; IA)

I am searching for marriage and death information regarding Anna Maria Brewster-Brown. She was born 08 Jan 1830 in New York, New York to Joseph B. Brewster and Sarah Ann Hutchinson. She married Clarkson Brown before 1850 in New York (they appear on the New York 1850 Federal Census). They had at least two children in New York, Laura Elizabeth in 1850, and my ancestor, Joseph Brewster Brown in 1851. They then moved to Des Moines, Iowa where they show up on the 1860 census. I am able to locate Clarkson Brown on the 1880 Des Moines, Iowa Federal Census - he and Anna are separated or divorced at this time. Anna is also on the 1880 census with some children. Anna then shows up on the 1885 Iowa State Census as a widow. I have some information that Anna died 07 Jul 1894 in Iowa. However, I have been unable to prove this. Any help finding Anna Maria Brewster-Brown and Clarkson Brown, and connecting them to Joseph Brewster Brown would be greatly appreciated.

They money they raise from the sale of the books helps the Society.

Visit their website. Buy a book and then donate it to your local research library so that someone else can also benefit from the book.

Alternatively, visit your local or regional genealogical library. Most will have large Mayflower sections of the same books. NEHGS in Boston even "rents" out books by mail to members.

You may view it at http://genealogy.tolksteel.com There is a search box for the site also.

The following surnames are the main names listed in the book but there are many secondary surnames also listed. For a complete check, please use the search box on the site.

Munro, Tilley, Howland, Revell, Greenway, Mayo, Graves, Devotion, Giddings, James, and Bosworth.

I do not have any other information related to these families.
Sarah Bumpas & George White

Does anyone have any information on their (individuals above)son, George White? I have seen some information on the son, George, marrying a Patience and having son Nathaniel; but was wanting some direction on where to obtain proof of this as the books I found on them do not go this far.
Line goes:
1. Richard Warren m. Elizabeth
2. Mary Warren m. Robert Bartlett
3. Mary Bartlett m. Jonathan Morey/Mowry
4. Hannah Morey m. John Bumpas
5. Sarah Bumpas m. George White

I am also wondering if anyone has any further information on the parents of George White married to Sarah Bumpas?

My husband's line is White and family story goes that they had their information traced to the Mayflower (White side) but the lady that had the information had a house fire and the information was lost in the fire. Does that sound familiar to anyone in the White family as I am sure others probably knew about this information?.

Thanks,
Sheryl

Was she married to Thomas Bailey or was she married to Charles Brownell? Or both? I can find documentation for the Bailey Line, but not the Brownell line. The children I have for Mary Wood is this:

Constant Bailey 1717-1741
Joseph Bailey 1719-1787
Oliver bailey 1721-1778
Berzillah Bailey 1724-
Lemuel Bailey 1732-1745
Mary Bailey 1733-

It's my day off, so I'm heading over to the library, is this the correct line?

Through my great, great, great grandfather Elisha Brown, I have found out that William Brewster is my 7th great grand uncle. Mary Smythe is my 11th great grandmother. How do I go about paper work wise to prove this? I have the documentation on ancestry.com Also is this lineage so vague, that they would decline it? Just a couple of questions for a very excited person.

Stephen HOPKINS decendant Melissa MAXWELL

My friend, Melissa Maxwell, is very very ill so I am doing her genealogy so she can pass in down to her children. She told me her ancestor Stephen Hopkins and his family came over on the Mayflower...Stephen, his wife Elizabeth, and their children" Constance, Giles, Damaris who died befor 1627, Oceanus born on the ship. Once the were in Plymouth, Plymouth, MA they had more children: Caleb, Deborah, Damaris born 1627, Ruth, Elizabeth.

Constance married Nicholas Snow, 1627.

Giles married but I don't know to who.

One of the female children (these or their children) married a MAXWELL. The furthest I got in the MAXWELL line was Gershom Maxwell, born 1676.

I am trying to connect the dots. If you have any infomation the will help me, Please reply.

Thank You

Joan

Thomas Mitchell > Francis Cooke

I'm new to this list and this area of research. Perhaps someone can guide me.

Late on the eve of this Thanksgiving I thought I hit the jackpot connecting my Mary Mitchell to the Francis Cooke line. After checking the Mayflower list's archives (2001), my exhilaration went poof! Perhaps there have been some new findings - or someone can set me straight.

Timothy SAUNDERS (Mary MITCHELL5, Andrew4, Thomas3, Jane COOKE2, Francis1),

The problem -- Thomas' identity and offspring were in question according to 2001 archive post. Is that still the case?

Thanks for any assistance.
Diane Jameson, California

From: "S. Roser" <roser@globalserve.net>
Subject: Fw: [MFLR] Thomas Mitchell3 (Jane2 Cooke)
Date: Wed, 1 Aug 2001 08:48:01 -0400
Thomas Mitchell, son of Experience & Jane (Cook) Mitchell is not known to have married or left descendants. He last appears in the Plymouth colony records in 1672 then disappears. It is thought he may be the same who turned up in RI in 1673 and Block Island in 1678 but proof is lacking. The Thomas of Block Island is attributed with sons Thomas, John & Joseph - no Andrew mentioned here either.

NEHGR 82:456-64 has a genealogy for Thomas Mitchell of Block Island.

Susan E.
Refutation of claim by descendants of John Chipman d. 1819 in Grant Co., KY

Subject: claim of descent from John Jump Sr. (ca. 1749-1841), RW soldier who d. in Grant Co, KY, by descendants of John Chipman, d. 1819 in Grant Co., KY; this John Chipman erroneously claimed to be a son of John and Mary (Harris) Chipman of Guilford Co., NC.

“Jump Genealogy” (1987 revision) by Robert Shearer et al discredits the claim that John Jump Sr. served in the NC militia during the RW. He actually served from PA. His pension records do not mention residence in NC, thus ending the claim that he served there.

The claim is made that both John Chipman (d. 1819) and Perry Chipman (d. 1827) of Grant Co., KY (allegedly no. 274 & 279 respectively in “A Chipman Genealogy” 1970) were from NC, and were cousins. This claim was chiefly advanced by Everett and Lenore Chipman in their monograph “The Chipmans in Grant County, Kentucky.” Some have thought that “Perry” was a nickname for “Paris.” In reality, it seems to have been a surname used as a given name, and has no relation to “Paris” at all.

That these men were from NC is easily refuted:

The 1860 U.S. census for Guilford Co., NC (M653/900) pg. 9 lists Paris Chipman, age 67, white, b. NC.
This is undoubtedly the real no. 274.

The 1860 U.S. census for Obion Co., TN (M653/1267) pg. 60 lists JC Chipman, age 71, white, b. NC
This is undoubtedly the real no. 279; it should be noted that in 1840 Obion Co. he is listed as John C.H. Chipman; some descendants of this man appear to have migrated to AR, but I have not traced them further.

There is little doubt that Perry and John Chipman as discussed in paragraph 3 above were from DE and had lived for some time in VA; some farmers left VA after wearing out the poor land and relocated to PA and DE.

I am not disputing the legitimacy of the descent of John and Perry Chipman of Grant Co., KY from John and Hope (Howland) Chipman; the claimed lines, however, are fallacious.

Happy Halloween!

James Chipman, b. 1771 Kent Co., DE, son of Stephen Chipman, LIVES!

JAMES CHIPMAN, SON OF STEPHEN CHIPMAN,
WAS LIVING IN DE AS LATE AS 1 JANUARY 1800.

I’m addressing this topic one post, as it will help researchers working with Delaware records avoid going 'round in circles.

The 1790 U.S. Census for Delaware is lost. To rectify the situation, tax lists of the period have been compiled. Sometimes on these tax lists, you will see an entry like “John Smith’s land.”

According to the Hall Of Records in Dover, DE, the purpose of this notation, e.g., “Ld,” “L^d,” or “Lnd,” has no bearing on whether the person owning the land was living or deceased, but refers to the status of the owner, who could be a minor, a non-resident of the Hundred, and of course he could be dead.

In the case of Stephen Chipman’s son Thomas, who died in 1789, there is an entry in the 1790 Kent Co., DE/Muderkill Hundred tax list regarding Thomas Chipman’s Land. From Thomas Chipman’s will, know that he died in 1789. He mentions his brother James Chipman in his will.

There is a 1791 tax list entry in the same place for James Chipman’s Land. In this case the Jonathan Emerson estate papers referenced in a previous post prove absolutely that James Chipman was not deceased when this 1791 entry was recorded; in fact, he was 20 years old.

The complete transcription of the 1 January 1800 payout from the Emerson estate to James Chipman is as follows:

“By Cash paid James Chipman a Legacy of the Deceas’d will &c 133.33
Interest from 6 Mo 30th 1792 to 1 Mo 1st 1800
60.21”

This gave James Chipman the princely sum of $193.54. Amazingly, he did not erect the first skyscraper in antebellum Delaware.

One misc. note: authentic southern Chipmans are occasionally found with spelling variations: Chepman, Chapman, Champman (NC); Chitman, Champman, Shipman (TN).

Have fun.

JT Chipman
9/12/06

Pilgrim cemetery naming

I am a relatively new Pilgrim researcher, currently going through the details of some material on my Bradford line in New England. I am noticing that in many (though not all) cases where a burial location is mentioned, it simply states "old burial ground" or "old cemetery" with no cemetery name, and it is puzzling me.

Is this a common occurrance with the Pilgrims and descendants? Do they not commonly name cemeteries, or is this a shortcoming of my source material? I am entering "old burial ground" in lower case letters, assuming it is not a place name, but I do not even know for sure that this is true.

If anyone has any light to shed on my confusion, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Can someone give me the scoop on the pedigree of Elizabeth FREEMAN who married Thomas GATES in Sudbury, MA 6 Jul 1670?
According to the Gates Genealogy, Elizabeth was the daughter of Edmund Freeman.
I've seen references to this couple on rootsweb that she was also the daughter of John Freeman. I've also seen some pedigrees that she was descended from William Brewster, but there is no library remotely close by to me that has the 4-5 generation book on him.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Deb

Can anyone tell me if Elizabeth Fuller (daughter of Edward Fuller), was married more than once? I have found Elizabeth Fuller married to Thomas Upson in 1646, then her second marriage as Moses Rowley in 1652, and a third marriage to Edmund Scott in 1655. The volume 4 book has her married to Moses only. I am a descendant of Thomas Upson and Elizabeth Fuller, but I am thinking there is something askew here as to this being the same Elizabeth Fuller, daughter of Edward.

I could really use some help

Hello.
My name is Erika Hicks and I am from Ebenbsburg, PA.
My grandma is a member of a Mayflower society, however I am not sure which one. I stumbled upon your website and I was hoping to find out some information.
Sadly my grandma is very sick and is no longer too helpful in my search for our family history. She did a lot of research but it is all lost now since my grandpa died and she moved into a home.
So I am writing in hopes that maybe you have a record of her membership somehow. Or could help in my quest to find which person my family is a decendant of.

Her married name is Beula Hicks.
family name was Beaula Westover.
That is all the information I can provide. My parents are searching for any other names to link with her, but this is all I can do for now.

I would greatly appreciate any help. Or another person to talk to.

thanks so much
Erika Hicks

Hopkins descendant? confused!

Hopefully someone can help me figure this out. Back in 1940 a Redmond S. Cole corresponded with my great grandfather James Samuel Sheffield. The information the family has on the Hopkins comes from what Mr. Cole sent Great grandpa.

Stephen Hopkins.
Constance Hopkins and Nicholas Snow
Mary Snow and Thomas Paine
Mary Paine and Isreal Cole
Isreal Cole and Mary Emery
Isreal Cole and Remember Burgess
Kesiah Cole and Sampson Samuel Cole
David Mason Cole and Remember Woolsey
James Cole and Elvira Little
Elizabeth Cole and Issac Newton Sheffield
James Samuel Sheffield

Then
Stephen Hopkins
Elizabeth Hopkins and Samuel Burgess
Remember Burgess and Isreal Cole
Kesiah Cole and Sampson Samuel Cole
David Mason Cole and Remember Woolsey
James Cole and Elvira Little
Elizabeth Cole and Isaac Newton Sheffield
James Samuel Sheffield

A distant cousin sent me there data on Constance and Elizabeth Hopkins and they had Mary Merrick as the mother. But I don't think that is correct from what I'm seeing out here on the net.
I've come across sites that say Stephen was buried 20 Aug 1644 and that he married Mary Merrick 23 May 1667 which is 23 years after he was buried and that he married Bethia Linnell 9 Apr 1701. Did he have 4 wifes? And what is the correct mother for Constance and Elizabeth. Those of you that have Hopkins in your line how off is my data here? Any help to point me in the correct direction would be greatly appreciated.
Klara

Francis Cooke Society

An idea has scratched the surface on the Mayflower mailing list about a society for the descendants of Francis Cooke. It seems there is not a society as of yet for his descendants. If anyone is interested please contact me off line and we will see how many are interested and if the response is good we will see where to go from there. Also let me know if you would be willing to help in this adventure.

Thank you,
Valeria
Member of the Mayflower Society under Francis Cooke
General # 69,119
