Griffin began buying property in the Reedy Creek area of Marion County in 1802, but I do not know where he came from, or who his parents were. He was married to Delila and I have information from this point forward. Any information would be very helpful!

Some Chesterfield County families from the 1800s

I'm in the process of typing a manuscript on the early history of some Chesterfield, SC families that lived near Juniper Creek and Bear Creek in the 1800's. I've been collecting information for 10 years from land conveyances, deeds, wills, probate, cemetery records and court cases. I would like to donate a copy of this manuscript to the new search room in Chesterfield. If anyone has information on the families listed, please contact me at npbaugh@hotmail.com Maybe someone has some old letters or Bible entries that they would like to share. I would be most appreciative.

I am trying to trace Elijah Finklea born around 1854, I believe, in South Carolina. The 1880 census Cain's Township ,Marion County, S.C., showed him being age 25 and evidently living with a cousin, William E. Finklea age 40 and his wife, Harriet age 44. According to 1880 census William E. and Harriet had a son Evander, age 22/ a son John B. age 20/a daughter Sallie age 10/a son Louis M. age 12. I have found nothing yet about Elijah's mother and father. If anyone has any more information on this family please advise. Elijah was my maternal grandfather. Thanks

Kings in Early S.C.

Am descended from the James King who is enumerated on the 1790 Edgefield census. An Elizabeth King is separately enumerated also. A James King is listed in, "Register Book, for the Parish of Prince Frederick Winyaw", spouse, Elizabeth Townsend, married 19 Oct.,1745, died 1752. Also have heard that a James King came to/thru Charleston in early 1700s as servant to an priest. Is there anyone out there who can shed light on all these Kings? Is there a connection between the James and Elizabeth on the 1790 Edgefield census? Are any of the mentioned James Kings connected to the James on the 1790 census? Also, the 1790 census shows that James King's household included two males under age 16.My ancestor was not born until 1792, thus he seems to have had two older brothers, but who were they? Are there younger siblings as well? Can you add light to this dark mystery? Thanks much...Ed King edwining@webtv.net

Looking for information about the town of Ferguson, SC, on the Santee River, now submerged under Lake Marion. The town was named for a Ferguson family who lived there. The name is preserved only in "Ferguson's Landing," a boat-launching site on the lake. The earlier town was big enough to have three hotels. There was a cypress lumber company there, one of the biggest lumber companies in the US at the time. Would love a map or sketch of the town, or photos, or information about the family. This is not my family; just interested.

William Lavender was my gggggrandfather, his wife was Margaret; children David, John, Hugh P. Smith, Margaret that married James McCrackin, Jane that married Robert Liles, Sarah that married Robert Marrs and one other daughter Levie. During late March 1825 William and Margaret died, a week later David. John and Levie died. Does anyone have a record that might tell if there was an epidemic or disease in the Newberry area at that time. Also does any know where the King Creek Associate Reform Presbyterian Church and Cemetery is and who has the records. I would like to have the birth or baptism, christening of the children of this family, especially Hugh P. Smith Lavender my ggggrandfather. I am told they lived on or near Wateree Creek. William had a brother named Hugh Lavender that lived in the same area. They both were from Antrim Co. Northern Ireland. Any information anyone has on this family would be much appreciate.

Waddell, Beckett, Kyle, Ewart surnames in SC

I am looking for other researchers working on one or more of these surnames.

I have good descendant info to share, especially on Waddells.

I know that the Waddell's, Beckett's and Kyle's came into Charleston by ship. I have naturalization info on Robert Waddell showing he arrived in 1820.

I believe James Beckett came in right after the Revolutionary War. Margaret Kyle arrived with her husband James Beckett.

All are said to have come from Ireland.

I know very little about the Ewarts except they were cousins to the Waddells.

I really need the ship info on all of these families, but any info will be greatly appreciated.

I am a direct desc of Robert Waddell and Eliza Beckett, dau of James and Margaret Beckett.

All eventually settled in Columbia and are buried there.

Looking for information on a Charles H Scrughan who was listed on the 1910 South Carolina Soundex as residing with John G Smith in Charleston SC. Scrughan's age was listed as 33, birthplace England and his relationship was listed as 'SL' or son-in-law. Am trying to determine if he was really married to one of John G Smith's three daughters or whether he may have simply been living there at the time of the census. Any help will be appreciated. To O. B. Trimmier, $500, for contingent expenses in surveying into Tracts the Land ceded by the Cherokee Indians to the State of S.C., as Commissioner appointed for that purpose."

Thomas Jefferson Brunson

I had to take a prolonged leave from my search from family, life kept getting in the way. Now I am back on track and still searching for the parentage of my ggrandfather, Thomas Jefferson Brunson, b. 10/30/1841 d. 1913. I believe he went by the name of Jeff. He was married twice, 1st to Elsie Williams Riley, daughter of Miles Absent Riley and Elizabeth Wooten, 2nd to Adeline Rebecca Thames, daughter of Franklin White Thames and Mary Jane Clifton. To the best of my knowledge, he spent most of his life in the old Beaufort District, in the vicinity of Crockettville. He is buried in the cemetery at Beech Branch Baptist Church in present day Allendale County. The names of his children (& places they lived) are; Charles "Curtis" (SC), James Benjamin ( Fairfax, SC), Luther Franklin (SC & GA), Helen Louise "Lee" (SC & FL), Walter White (SC & FL), and Mary Ivy "Mamie" (SC & FL). If you have any information on any of these families, my e-mail has changed to 1mholcomb@comcast.net. I have quite a bit of information on descendents and will be happy to share.

Pleasant (Plesent) Webb

I am seeking any additional information that you can provide about the parents/siblings of Pleasant Webb. Thanks a million.
============================================
Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB was born about ca 1760-1765. His son, Elias, said that his father, Pleasant was born in Ireland (not substantiated). He may have come into the country via South Carolina. He died between 1830 and 1840 in Ohio, USA. Around 1800 Pleasant and family came in to the Ohio valley from Rutherford County, North Carolina. In 1803 (reported to be 45 years old) he was at the Licks in Scioto County, Ohio. Pleasant was in GreenupCounty, Kentucky in 1820 and in Lawrence County, Ohio in 1830. He did not appear in the 1840 census, so it is believed he died between 1830-1840. Pleasant (Plesent) WEBB and Unknown had the following children: James WEBB (1786), Elias WEBB (1788), Thomas Hanley WEBB (1795), Aden WEBB (1797), Temperance WEBB (1799), William WEBB (1801), Margaret WEBB (1806), Sarah (Sally) WEBB (1809), and Baker WEBB (1811).

Larry D.
I am trying to reach back beyond 1830 or so to see if I can track the marriage of a Joseph Thomas to a Susannah UNKNOWN. He was born about 1798 in SC and she about 1802 in SC. I have some oral history that indicated that they were from Edgefield District but my search finds no evidence of their marriage so far. They both moved to Georgia and had their children there. I am not sure yet if they married in SC or in Georgia but thought I would check both. I am at the brick wall that we all reach so any thing found would be so wonderful. Thank you in advance to all you volunteers!

Matthew RUSSELL and Jane McINTIRE

Hi cousins out there. Matthew was in Lancaster Co., PA, about the time son Thomas was born. He then seems to have moved to N.C. where he strongly defended the Indians (if same Matthew.) Then on to around Chester then Union Co.
He then moved over to Pendleton Dist. I thinkn he may have lived near Generostee Creek in Anderson, or near Abbeville.
Thomas Russell went to ALabama where there is a county named for the family, Russell Co. A lady from there sold me a picture of Thomas and one of his wife, a very chubby wife. Not sure that's who they actually are, for how would a backwoodsman like Thomas know photography had been invented? Thomas lived in Pendleton, SC. My ggf was William Walker Russell. My gmother was Daisy Russell.
