Thanks Leonie, my MIL passed away in 1986 not wanting to find out anything of her parents, so destroyed was she by what happened to her during her younger years. She was an amazing woman to have coped as well as she did. I did contact CLAN without any joy. I will try to see if I can get a copy of "The Rat Bins" and follow up the Melbourne Herald tip. There is a bit of information on "The Girl's Depot" in the 1950s and 60s but I can find no reference to the same orphanage in the 1920s.
