Congregational and Presbyterians joined together in New England?

Is this true? Did the Congregational and Presbyterian churches (some of them?) join together in New England at some point?
I have read something that seems to elude to this from old history books but the texts are so vague and in the old ways of speaking, I'm not sure I'm interpreting this correctly. If they did, was this by any chance taking place in the mid to latter 1700's? Can anyone here help explain this better.
Thank You.

1774 Congregational - Maine

My question is one I can't seem to find a good answer for online so far. My 5th grt. grandparents were married in a Cong. Church in York Co., ME in 1774. I believe my 5th grt. grandfather may have been an Ulster-Scot and his bride my 5th grt. grandmother was of Scottish origins.
My question is, did some of the Presbyterian folks who came to America during the Ulster-Scot immigration period, attend Congregational Churches?
I have found a few old records from other Congregational churches in York Co., ME which seem to indicate so, but I cannot find anything definitive about this.
I'm just wondering if the Presbyterians in those early days of their settling in New England (the Ulster-Scots and Irish) would have converted over from Presbyterian to Congregationalism.
Thank You very much for any help.
