From the Castlegar News. Beverly Louise Chernoff (nee-Garrett) of Castlegar, BC born May 25,1933 in Nelson, BC passed away suddenly June 12, 2008. Our mom was an extraordinary gardener who had an enormous love for animals and a flair for entertaining. She was an avid curler, golfer, and tennis player in her youger days, Her thirst for knowledge carried her through many careers- her most enjoyable was the time she spent in Bob Briscoe's constituency office and her many years at Selkirk College. Mom is lovingly remembered by her children: Tannis ( Danny) Cuthbert, Brenda Danchuck ( Byron Jackson), Deceased) and Jason ( Lori) Chernoff: grandchildren and great-grand children: Jennie (Grant) Simister- Jacob, Caitlin, Kyle, Amanda and Steven; Corrine (Russ) Hnatiuk-Eric and Larissa: Cara (Rick) Morris- Rowan: Nicole Danchuck (Ben Corbett)- Paige; Kyla Pakula and Jessica Chernoff. She is also survived by her sister Shirley (David) Wapple; nephews Robert and Pat, brother David Garret, Mother-in-law Florence Chernoff, brother-in-law: Harry (Verna), Lawerence (Jody), David (Sophie) and families, aunts: Eve Couling, La Vonne Phillips and Molly Almaas. Mom will also be missed by her devoted friend, Vi Stoushnow, who's special touch added so much to her life. Also supported in her home life by caregiver and friend Cate Sheltens. Bev was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Jack Chernoff, Parents Frank and Alice Garret and son-in-law Byron Jackson. Celebration of life was held at the Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Thursday June 19, 2008 at 11:00am. Ceremation has taken place and the interment will take place at Park Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Bev's memory may be held to the Canadian Cancer Society, 908 Rossland Ave. Trail BC V1R-3N6.
