My earliest traceable ancestor came to Thorney, Cambs UK in the mid 17th Century. His name is listed as Pierre Sige. He had three sons, Pierre (married to Rachel Bernard/Barnard/Banard), Jacob and Isaac (married to Alis/Alix/Elis Howarth/Howard/Houerd). The French first names continue in the family until the early 19th Century, when the more common first name of John took precedence and was used throughout the generations during that century.
From the mid 17th - mid 19th Century the surname changes in variation of spelling and eventually settled at Siggee by the early 20th Century. John Siggee (b. ca 1870 in Cambs) moved to Nottingham where he married my great great-grandmother, Martha. They had four children, including Martha, Rhoda (my great-grandmother) and John (aka Jack).
I'm interested to know of any other branches of the Sige/Sigee family (plus any other spelling variations). I would also like to trace the origins of the family, ie. were they French or Belgian? I understand they were Walloon, but is this their origin? Would be delighted to receive any and as much information as possible.
