How to find where in Russia (Poland)????

Surnames: Drosch, Drash, Friedman, Freedman
I have passenger lists, census reports, death certificates and marriage certificates for my Drash/Drosch line but they all only say that the place of origin/birth was Russia, which I am assuming eventually became Poland. Same for my Friedman/Freedman line. How do I determine exactly where they were from? Thanks.
