Surnames: Lopez, Rivera
Hello to all,
I am looking for information on the Portuguese/Spanish ancestry of 18th century Jewish merchants Aaron Lopez and his uncle/father-in-law Jacob Rodriguez Rivera, who lived in Newport, Rhode Island.
From a few web sites what I already found was: Aaron Lopez was born 1731 in Lisbon, and his Christian name was Duarte; his father was Moses Lopez; his mother should be a sister of Jacob Rodriguez Rivera; Aaron Lopez's second wife was his cousin Sarah Rivera, Jacob's daughter; Jacob Rodriguez Rivera's family is said to come from Seville.
I found out there is one book on Aaron Lopez, named "Lopez of Newport: Colonial American Merchant Prince", by Stanley F. Chyet (Detroit, Wayne State University Press, 1970), but I don't think I will ever find a copy here in Portugal.
I would greatly appreciate any information on this subject.
