Fred makes a small error in the web page TITLE:
"The Doukhobor Origin and Meaning of Molokan Surnames http://www.doukhobor.org/Molokan.htm#Y describes the name this way. ... Before I knew of the Doukhobor interpretations, ..."
Actually these are NOT "Doukhobor" interpretations, but Russian scholar interpretations. Doukhobor researcher Jon Kalmakoff, who hosts the web site and created this page with my help, lists 7 sources at the bottom for the Russian surname origins — 5 in Russian, 2 in English. He also communicates directly with scholars in Russia, to be a accurate as possible.
So Doukhobors did not create these origins and meanings, rather a Doukhobor and Molokan gathered and listed them mainly for Molokans and Maksimists to easily use as a reference.
While Jon was building the "Origins and Meanings of Doukhobor Surnames" page, I asked if he could also do one for Molokan surnames since so many surnames are the same and he was very good at it. He agreed! We started with my name list from the _1980 Molokan Directory_ and expanded. Later I added the Russian spellings.
