obit - SLEVCOVE, Hazel John (1911-2008)
Risher Mortuary
----------------

Hazel John Slevcove
(May 8, 1911 - September 23, 2008)

Hazel John Slevcove, 97, was born on May 8, 1911 in Los Angeles, California, and passed away on September 23, 2008 in El Monte, California.
Hazel is survived by her loving brothers, Alex Slevcove of Montebello, California, Bill Slevcove of Pico Rivera, California, John Slevcove of Newport Beach, California, Jim Slevcove of San Clemente, California, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Dressing Prayer will be at 9:00 am on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Risher Mortuary Chapel in Montebello, California.

Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, September 26, 2008, from Risher Mortuary Chapel in Montebello, California, with services starting at 1:00 pm at the Russian Molokan Cemetery in Commerce, California.
============================
I'm a bit confused about this obituary. The Hazel John Slevcove I have shows her parents as John Peter Slevcove and Julia W. Metchikoff. Her brother Alex died in January of 2008 and would not have been alive at the time of her death. I only show William, John and Jim alive at the time of her death. I also show her married to John G. Metchnikoff in May 1936. I do not know if he is still alive or if they had children.

Is this the correct Hazel Slevcove? If it is, then I will post what I have for her family.

Nancy

In Memory - PAPPIN, William William (1935-2008)

My 2nd cousin recently died. There was no obituary and the service was held at the cemetery with only close family present. In memory of my dear cousin I wrote a short obituary and included a letter he wrote to me about his family.

William William Pappin
(7/25/1935 - 9/2008)

William "Billy" Pappin was born in Auburn, Placer Cnty, CA and died possibly in Alameda County, CA. He was previously married to Joanne Barbara Stich (1937-2003). He has a son William Pappin and a daughter Laura Ivie; three grandchildren: Jessica, Christopher, and Cameron Ivie.

Billy was a retired 18-wheel truck driver. He was also a journyman in cabinetry and thus following the Poppin/Pappin tradition pursing trades in trades as carpenters and cabinet makers.

He is buried in the Russian Sectarian Cemetery in Colma, CA.
=========================
Spouse: Joanne Barbara Stich (1937-2003); married on 28 May 1960 in Reno, Washoe, NV
Children: William and Laura

Parents: William Elmer Pappin (1898-1968)and Mary George Susoeff (1906-1951)
Children: George, Anne, William

1. George (1923-1999) md. Paula-Anna Jack Susoev (1925-2003) = Gregory, Gary, Kathleen, Michael, and Cynthia

NOTE: The two posts in front of the entrance to the Russian Sectarian Cemetery say "Russian Sectarian Cemetery Assoc. Incorporated November 1932" "In Memory of George W. Pappin"

2. Anne md. William Mark Loskutoff on 03 Aug 1947 in San Francisco, CA

3. William - see above

Billy's father remarried after his wife died. His second wife was Mary John Tolmachoff (1909-1986). Mary had previously been married to Edward Paul Lidyoff (1902-1946)
=========================
I copied a few of Billy's letters. He explains about his family and growing up years.

To: Nancy
Sent: Monday, January 14, 2002 12:37 PM
Subject: Yet Another Cousin

Hello Nancy
First of all, Please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is William B. Pappin (Born as William William Pappin).
Or as in the Russian tradition, ( Vasily Vasilyvich Pappin ).
Son of William Elmer Pappin and Grandson of Elmer Fred Poppin.
( hopefully the middle names are correct ).

Secondly and with your telephone conversation with my wife Joanne ( Stich ) Pappin, I was truly overwhelmed at your dedication to the family archives of the Poppin family as well as to their arrival into the United States from Russia.

As a youngster who was born In Auburn CA in the year 1935, I had neither very little interests nor the desire to trace my family origin.

When I had seen and read your prized articles along with your collection of photo's,
A spark was initiated. I was in a complete state of surprise and amazement with your accomplishments.

As I write this letter, I am shaking my head with chills and tears that are a reflection of very warm and everlasting memories of long ago. For the most part, I could never keep track of the huge popularity that you had outlined in precise detail. Simplicity in itself, to follow and to understand where and how our families intertwine.

And as a result of your tedious and marvelous efforts, I can only say with absolute certainty, Thank You. Thank You Nancy, for clarifying these blood lines which could never be explained and cataloged in simplified terms. Eg: You have taken away the mystery and broadened my knowledge that has evaded me all of these years.

It was extremely interesting to find that most of the male members of the Poppin family had pursued their trades as carpenters and cabinet makers. Possibly as a result of Grandfather Elmer F. Poppin having to change his means of support as a property owner under the Soviet regime and their frightening threats.
Being young at the time and un knowingly, I too had followed in the footsteps of my ancestors, earning my journymenship in cabinetry as well.

The William Elmer Pappin family, Brother George, Sister Anne and I were restless while the war was escalating into a feverish pitch. From San Francisco to Lincoln and Sheridan we moved back and forth. Always packing our belonging and trucking to another location.
Del Paso Heights in Sacramento where Dad built a home for the five of us. Another house he built in San Mateo.
Two farms which Dad had expanded , one of which was nestled in the hills called " Thermal-lands" because of the extreme heat during the Summer, near Sheridan.

The second farm was located mid point between Lincoln and Sheridan where I attended both schools for the following reason;

While I was in grade school at Lincoln elementary, a truant officer approached my Dad and claimed that " little Billy ( me ) was violating the boundary lines, according to the Department of Education". A harsh argument took place as I watched with disbelief.
With broken English, Dad would often say " You never mind, this not your business, get off my land " !
Before I realized what happened after the skirmish, I was sitting in a two room school in Sheridan elementary, 6th grade.

Several times I have counted the number of schools I had attended before my graduation, thirteen in all.
Star King in SF as a first grader.
Valley View elementary. Beautifully high above the hills near Sheridan during World War-2.
Patrick Henry of course, SF.
Daniel Webster in SF along with my late cousin Nick Poppin, ( Hawaii ).
Nick and I were born in 1935, Nick was two months older then me. Along with Nicks older brother George . (First cousins and Sons of John Elmer Poppin).
Then Commerce High in SF.
San Mateo High School, where Dad had built another home.

When the state opened the freeway (Highway 101 near SF General Hospital ) houses were being sold for as little as one dollar each.
My Dad bought this one house for 25 dollars and had it moved to De Haro St. Which I believe is the second steepest hill on the Potrero Hill district.
One block from the Molokan Church.
Here was a two story house banked at a 45 degree angle, Standing on wooden blocks and the first floor was nothing but a shell.
Each day, Dad built the interior walls to support the second story structure and each day the house was lowered, inch by inch until completion. To this day I am still baffled at his ability to undertake such a task.

Returned to Commerce High, when my Mother (Mary G. Pappin) passed away during my sophomore year, 1951. ( 16 years of age ).
Finally, upon graduation from high school, I attended City College of San Francisco where I majored in electrical engineering for 8 months.

The following is a brief recollection and may be of interest.
Commerce High was on the verge of being closed permanently in 1952.
Everyone went their separate ways, including myself.
Instead of continuing my schooling in a traditional high school, I decided to enroll into a trade school of all things. John A. O’Connell Trade and Vocational High School, On 22nd St. in San Francisco.

As I sat in the class room, this giant of a man with broad shoulders entered the room very quietly and wrote his name on the black board.
Needless to mention and being rather shy, I nearly fell out of my chair. I glanced at the other students to see their reactions.
This giant of a man slowly turned and announced his name to the class. He politely said "My name is Mr. Poppin, your physical Ed instructor". Oh Wow ! I was blushing all colors of the rainbow. Here was your Father Nancy. Mr.Poppin, my my, what a small world.

Meanwhile, during class, Mr.Poppin ( never did I call him George ) asked all of us fellas to introduce our names to the rest of the class.
When it came to my turn, I could barely stand and address myself as William Pappin.
By the very same token your Father appeared to react in a normal way, not surprised to hear my name. Yet, after the class was dismissed, I walked over to your Dad, we shook hands and talked briefly about whom who was regarding our relations.
Your Father also pointed out his coaching football at the University of Santa Clara which made quite an impression for me.
And coincidentally, I worked as a carpenter for the University of Santa Clara in 1973.

Oh and I shall never forget, whenever your Dad needed to bolster the spirits of the basketball team of John A. O’Connell, instead of saying " Let's get on the ball" Your Dad had a favorite saying " Let's get on the Sphere" ! A remarkable man indeed.
One whom I shall always remember.
I might add at this time, Please say hello to your Dad okay.
I do wish and pray for his well being and may God Bless you always.

My graduation from John A. O’Connell took place in June of 1953.
The grades I received from your Dad as a coach were excellent.
I wonder why ( smile ).
Your Dad was present as well as my Dad and his new wife from Los Angeles.
Mary Tolmachoff. I knew her best by her previous marriage as Lidyoff.
Pronounced...Lideye-ov.

Some irrelevant notes on Mary (Lidyoff) Tolmachoff are as follows:

She has two Sons and one step Son who recently passed away in December of 2002, a Fire & Rescue official for the county of L.A. Mary had married a Bogdonoff after my Fathers (William Elmer Pappin) death in May of 1968. Mary is now deceased as well.
Her two natural Sons, John Lidyoff live and manage his cotton ranch in Kerman near Fresno. Married into the wealthiest family in Fresno. And Eddie Lidyoff, the youngest Son. His whereabouts are unknown to me at this point in time.
Mary Tolmachoff AKA Mary Lidyoff also has a Daughter Luba, approximately 2 years older than myself that moved to Australia sometime in the 1950's, married to Nick Lazootin,
where they currently reside near Sydney Australia.

One note for clarification: William Michial Loskutoff, Possibly and previously with the middle name of " Mark", later changed to "Michial" married to Anne William Pappin, ( My Sister) served in the United States Army Air Corp. during World War-2 flying bomber missions over Burma. And not the Navy as per documentation.

William Michial Loskutoff ( My Brother in Law ) and ( to the best of my knowledge ) had two or three other brothers, Max and ? ? One of which served in the Merchant Marines aboard a cargo vessel transporting war machinery across enemy waters. Hence the military clarification of William " Mark" ? Loskutoff in 1943 as serving in the U.S. Navy could very well be incorrect ?

On a personal note:
I must comment on your Father once again.
When I had seen his picture at the table, surrounded by his family, children and yourself,
I was astounded at his resemblance to my very own brother, almost twins I thought.
A scholarly and a very handsome young gentleman. What a marvelous group.
One that I became aware of and will always be extremely proud to be a part of.

As mortal human beings, we all have our reasons for seeking out the truth to our existence.
I for one can honestly say " You have shed the greatest amount of light that one could possibly have". A splendid job well done.
I truly hope one day, one day soon we shall meet and exchange our love and friendship towards one another and lift our glasses of "Chi" and say "Nazdarovia"!!!

The Poppins, whichever and however the names are spelled, is but one family who had seen and took that very first journey of a thousand miles and we survived for all of eternity.
Only to pass down the Russian tradition to our future generation.

From what I am able to gather, you and I are third cousins.
Your picture tells me that you are soft spoken, witty and charming with an interest in education and teaching. Also, there is no denying that your appearance is that of a Poppin who is well versed and educated in countless number of categories.

You have certainly enriched my life Nancy.
And if you had never phoned, I would have never known.
For this, I shall always be forever grateful for your undaunting efforts in compiling such a magnitude of events.

In closing, my mind begins to wander with Russian thoughts.
Seems like the words of thank you is never enough to express my gratitude.
To say good bye would be inappropriate.
So for the time being, My Prayers of Good health I extend to one and all.

May the Good Lord Keep You In His Loving Arms Always and Forever.
" Spa-see-hos-poit" and " Dos-ve-don-ya, for now.
Your Devoted Cousin... William (B. illy) Pappin from Newark CA.
From the Oakland Tribune, Monday, June 4, 1934:
One Killed at Wedding Party

San Francisco, June 4. - A party begun to celebrate the wedding of a Russian Couple in Bayshore Hall, 6235 Third Street, yesterday, ended with the death of one guest, injuries to more than 20 others, and the arrest of seven.

John Bodonoff [Bogdanoff], 26, Santa Rosa rancher, died in Mission Emergency Hospital from injuries suffered in the riot. Police Sergeant Thomas Murphy, 54, was in a critical condition with a possibly fractured skull. Others were less seriously hurt in the melee.

The bride and groom, safely married before the riot, are John Kanehen [Kanihan] and the former Gussie Susoeff, 903 Carolina Street.

Police said the "party" began about 1 p.m. when a call was made [by neighbors who complained] of the noise at the wedding celebration. Sergeant Murphy and a patrolman were sent to investigate.

Murphy was struck with a demijohn and knocked unconscious, while the patrolman Vincent Morris was cracked with a chair.

Among those treated at the Emergency Hospital, in addition to Murphy and Morris, were Aldo Pucci, 1250 Newcomb Avenue, Babe Chiotti, 919 Ingerson Avenue, Louis Vracchi, 1201 Egbert Avenue; Al Christensen, 942 Ingerson Avenue, and Joseph de Risi, 1115 Hollister Street.”

Those arrested were: John Susoeff, 18, 10 Southern Heights; William Soskutoff (Loskutoff), 24, 1070 De Haro Street, Samuel Slepnikoff, 18, 901 De Haro Street; Jack Susoeff, 19, 898 Carolina street; Andrew Bodgonoff (Bogdonoff), 18, 803 Vermont Street; James Poppin, 21, 994 De Haro Street, and John Loskutoff, 21, 898 Carolina Street.
====================================
CADI: Bogdanoff, John, age 26 years, died 6/3/1934 in San Francisco, CA (90); cert 33933

I have no other information about which family John belongs to. If someone has information, please let me know. I do not see him buried at the Russian Sectarian Cemetery in Colma; there is a strong possibility he could be buried at Olivet Memorial Park or at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park.

Nancy Poppin Posey
Morozov/Nazaroff Headstone

In the Old Molokan Cemetery in East Los Angeles there is a headstone with four names: Timofei F. Morozov (1884-1905), Vasili T. Morozov (1904-1905), Dunya I. Nazarova (1900-1905), and Nastya I. Nazarova (1903-1905). Does anyone know what family this is? Circumstances of their death in 1905? Who placed the headstone? I am researching Morozoff/Morozov relatives and trying to fit this in to my research.

I do not have further information about Mary Rogoff. Who is she?
====================================
Los Angeles Times, dated Oct 13, 1955, pg.
History-Australia: Russian Sect Members Flee ‘Sinful L.A.’ (1964)

Los Angeles Times, dated Sep 10, 1964, pg. A1

Russian Sect Members Flee ‘Sinful L.A.’

Prophets of the Russian Molokan Christian Holy Spiritual Jumpers for months have been telling 20,000 members of the sect in Southern California that “soon we will have to move again.”

That day came Wednesday for the first eight familes-32 men, women and children who boarded the P&O liner Oriana at San Pedro to migrate to a rural area near Perth, Australia.

The Molokans, as they are called, have been looking for new lands to settle because “there are too many worldly activities and too much sin to tempt our children in Southern California.”

‘MORALS HIGHER’
“In Australia, the bars close at 6 p.m. Everything is closed from Saturday to Monday morning. There is much less divorce. Morals are higher than they are here,” said an elder of the sect.

Bill Chernekoff, 33, of LaHabra, who sailed with his wife and three children, explained why he is moving:

“Our prophets have been looking for another land. A year ago, they began to investigate Australia.”

VISIONS RECEIVED
The prophets, Chernekoff said, are respected elders of the faith who receive visions from God and deliver the Holy Spirit’s message to members of the sect.

Those who left after a fervent religious ceremony at the Consolidated Marine Terminal at Los Angeles Harbor have sold all their possessions to start a new life on the other side of the world. Twenty other families will leave in November.

Bearded elders led prayers, songs and chants for the more than 2,000 members on hand to see the eight families depart.

“God protect them. Send angels with them on their long journey,” intoned their leader, John Suesoff (Susoeff), pastor of the Old Romanski Church in East Los Angeles.

Men, women and children chanted tearfully over and over in Russian:

“Where are you going? Over deep seas and hot sun in search of God in the name of Christ.”

As they prayed and sang, they jumped “in rejoicement of the manifestation of God.”

Those remaining behind presented a large loaf of blesses bread, salt, prayer books and gifts to the young families leaving. The bread is eaten each day of the voyage as a symbolic observance of their religion.

The ceremony was identical to one nearly 60 years ago when the Molokans left Russia to migrate here. They were granted permission to leave Russia, where they claimed to have been persecuted because they are conscientious objectors. They came to Los Angeles between 1905 and 1913.

Every Molokan in the terminal kissed each of those departing as their forefathers did in Russia four generations ago.

And then the ship sailed.
Hosted by the website SDHM.info — Soiuz dukhovnie kristian-molokan (Union of Spiritual Chirstian Molokans). German proposes starting with a list of the 143 families who purchased the 34 square miles of land for the village of Vorontsovka in 1851. See the list: "Historical Material". Molokans founded Vorontsovka village in 1844, Soviets renamed it Kalinino in 1935, and in 1991 Armenia renamed it Tashir. It was the location of the historic 1905 Molokan convention. The 1851 Vorontsovka founders' census shows family names, gender, age, and where they came from in Russia. German also published his 2 family trees going back 8 generations to the early 1800s for Strelnikovs and Semiletovs. The 107 Vorontsovka founding family surnames (English - Russian) are: (list)

Uraine, Hanya Valoff - would like more information.

In response to Matt's post for Grace Bezayiff, I found the following information. I would like more information on the Alex Mekefer Uraine and Hanya Valoff families. Does someone have a genealogy report?

It appears that when Alex died in 1944, Hazel remarried an A. Tolmasov. There were a few that could be him found on the CADI, but I don't know which one. (either 1887-1951 or 1891-1966)

URAINE ALEX 1889 06 10 URAINE MALE RE LOS ANGELES 1944 02 23 554143927 54

URAINE HARRY 1910 10 27 VALOFF URAINE MALE CA LOS ANGELES 1958 12 29 561149308 48

TOLMASOV HAZEL E 1893 11 15 FEMALE RE LOS ANGELES 1978 06 22 556287898 84

Tolmasov, A. age 54 & Uraine, H., age 50, LA Times dated 3/9/1946, page	8

Thank you.

Nancy Poppin Posey

info re Russian/Molokan grandparents

I am looking for information about my Russian/Molokan grandparents, Jack and Mary Bogdanoff. (I believe her maiden name was Butchniff.) They both came from Russia about 1911'ish and settled in Los Angeles. They had four children: John, Julia, Anne and Tina. There may have been another son also. They lived on Estrada Street and attended a Molokan church in the neighborhood.
I would like to know what part of Russia they came from, the circumstances of the immigration to the US, and their families in Russia. Also, the name of the ship they came on and any other details about their lives.I believe there were cousins in San Francisco, and Jack Bogdanoff had a brother William or Bill.
I'd enjoy hearing from anyone with information about them or helpful hints on how I may find this information on my own.
Thanks, Nancy Lucas

Yerevan/Baku Research Trip - May 2007

Greetings,

This is a follow-up posting to an earlier posting I had placed regarding a Yerevan & Baku research trip. I have good news for those of you who had expressed an interest in having an archivist search for records on your ancestors from the Kars/Caucasus region.

A tentative research trip has been scheduled for May 2007 by Vlad Soshnikov, a Moscow Historian and Archivist. The records for the Kars/Caucasus region are maintained in Yerevan so anyone who might be interested in having their ancestry researched at the Yerevan archives should contact me as soon as possible. Once Mr. Soshnikov has an idea of how many participants we might have, he will provide us with an estimate of the cost per person. Please be sure to provide me with the surnames and any other relevant details that may be helpful in researching your family.

If you had previously expressed an interest in participating in this project, please contact me again with your information. Unfortunately, the original posting that was placed on this bulletin board has been deleted so I have no way of getting in touch with you. I also need to make everyone aware that there is no guarantee that records will be located for your family in the archives.

Thank you,

William Kisseloff-McCulloch

Cemetery records - Olivet Memorial Park

Please check out the Find a Grave website for the Olivet Memorial Cemetery. I spent four days taking photos of headstones and uploaded over 291 cemetery records. I have about 150+ headstone photos with some containing separate cameos and closeups. I have not uploaded the headstone photos as of yet; however, as time permits I will do so. If you see a name, let me know and I can send you the photo. There are many records where there is no headstone or marker.

Some of the records below are non-Russian.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=82...;

If anyone would like a complete list in a file formate, please let me know.

This is a comma-delimited file.
History-San Francisco: Somebody's Found Peace (1945)

The Salisbury Times, Salisbury, MD, Friday Evening, May 11, 1945

Somebody’s Found Peace
By Peter Edson

San Francisco – To Ahmet Emin Yalman, president representative of the Turkish delegation to the United Nations Conference has come one of the strangest and pleasantest experiences of the whole San Francisco meeting marking the end of another smaller search for peace that began back in 1939. Or maybe it began a couple of hundred years before that. Anyway—

In 1939 Yalman was a Turkish commissioner to the World’s Fair in New York.

In June of that year there came to the Turkish Embassy in Washington a delegation of Molokans from California. They wanted to migrate to Turkey and the case came to the attention of Commissioner Yalman in New York because it was in the nature of “new business.”

Now the Molokans are a lovely people, a clean and humble people something like the American Quakers. The word “Molokan” means “a drinker of milk.” They eat no pork. Molokans are pacifists.

Originally they came from what used to be Southern Russia, though their homelands are now in Turkey on the Russian border. Over the centuries they had built up their own customs and culture in which the desire for peace was always a dominant influence.

When they grew tired of the continual warring and massacres on the Turkish-Russian border, some of the younger spirits migrated to America to find peace. Here they prospered. There is a small colony of them in San Francisco, larger communities of several thousand families in the Fresno and Los Angeles areas. They made good citizens, pay their taxes and they never cause any trouble.

But in 1939 a group of these Molokans from the Los Angeles colony wanted to return to their homeland and they came to the Turkish Embassy in Washington to see what could be done about it. Their reason for wanting to leave America was this:

One of the prophets of the Molokans had a dream. In this dream it was revealed to him that the whole world was going to be engulfed in a horrible war. The United States was going to be involved in this war, according to the prophet, and the only country in the world that wouldn’t be involved would be Turkey.

So the Molokans wanted to go back where they came from to live in peace.

Well, the Turkish Embassy staff and Commissioner Ahmet Emin Yalman thought this was very nice, but a little bit crazy. If there was a war they figured Turkey would be among the first countries to be involved and the United States would be the last. Why didn’t the Molokans realize that and stay where they were in peaceful America?

LIVING HAPPILY.
So the Molokans came back to California, and here they have stayed. But Ahmet Emin Yalman now an editor of a newspaper in Turkey never forgot the strange dream of the Molokan prophet and when editor Yalman arrived in San Francisco for the United Nations Conference, one of his first requests was to visit the Molokans.

They arranged a little meeting of the Molokan Mothers’ Club out at the neighborhood house in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill district. Editor Yalman went out with six other members of the Turkish delegation, and they had a wonderful time. There were several hundred of the older people there. They all talked Turkish and they all wanted to shake hands with every one of the delegates. The younger Molokans have drifted away from the old traditions somewhat and become Americanized. But the old folks wanted to hear how things were with their relatives and forebears back on the Turkish border. They were told.

The Molokans’ desire to return home, however, is all gone. It was just a dream. They’ve found peace here.
Tales from Potrero Hill - Rag Shops

I often thought of what our ancestors did when they worked at a rag shop. That is what I have seen on the census. So, I asked the master expert, my father, about the rag shops. Here is what he has to say:
===========================
Subject: RAGS----BOTTLES----SACKS !!!!!

Yes, Nancy, my mother was very proud and happy that she once worked "na trrr--yap--kee" (iterally "on rags")...as if to show off her "independence" that she also contributed to the finances of the household by working sorting all types of rags which were used as oil and grease "wipes" by mechanics and others in industry...cotton in one batch..woolen in nother...so forth and so on. A lot of bales of rags were sent overseas from what I gather. There was a large group of women from the Hill who were employed in the same place...can you see my mother and the other ladies sitting down or standing while working and talking ( with shawls over their head) at the same time....it must have been a sight to behold...
Dear Mom. What a gal!! Her place of employment was someplace below the northern slopes of Potrero Hill. It had to be a walking distance from her home on the Hill for there wasn't public transportation on Potrero Hill at that time ....to the best of my knowledge.

Baikal, Siberia

I recently acquired a copy of a Honolulu Passenger Arrival record for my grandmother. According to family tradition, my grandmother was born in Vladivostok. This manifest lists Baikal, Siberia, Russia as place of birth for her and her husband. While I'm skeptical that she was born in Baikal, it's likely that her husband was.
Baikal apparently also has the variation, Baykal. The most familiar Baykal is the one near Irkutzk. I have found one other about 150 mile ENE of Chita which is a more likely candidate. Known locations for this family would include Hailar, Harbin and Vladivostok (?).
Does anyone have a Baikal or Baykal on their tree that might be located near Vladivostok, the Amur River Basin or, in general, Manchuria?

Rob Bogdanoff

It could be they married elsewhere. The engagement announcement indicates Nancy's parents live in Colorade. That is a possible place of marriage. Their first child was born in 1963.

Known children: Guy and Carolee
==============================
Parents of the groom: It is presumed William's father is Evon Halopoff. Mother is Unknown Feete.
William was the only known child. I have no other information for William's family.
