I descend from the large Quaker CROSS family, mainly of Woodbridge, Suffolk and Colchester Essex

the earliest CROSS Quakers were Edmond and Sarah Cross, possibly of Framlingham, originally. they arrived in Woodbridge around 1650 and joined the Quaker faith in 1655. from them are descended commoners and men of rank, Quakers and non-Quakers, and maybe a few black sheep...we're still trying to figure that last one out.

the most colorful of their known descendants was Walter Burton Harris, Moroccan corrospondant to the Times. the Times wrote a very fascinating and entertaining obituary for him.

the descendants of Edmond and Sarah are likely scattered to almost every continent on the globe. I know for certain of one or two in Italy, some in Australia, many in America and some in Canada. at least a few remain in England.

the known surnames that tie into the family are PECKOVER, MASON, SEAMAN, FREEMAN (at least 3 seperate ones), LARKES, HOOPE, WALLIS, PENNINGTON, BREWSTER, ALEXANDER, BOWLEY, SNARPLES/ SHARPLES, PENROSE, KING, WILKENSON, BURNHAM, BLAND, PETTITT, CLARK, HALL, JACKSON, COOPER, MAYO, BERRY, SHACKLETON, WIXLEY, OLIVER, MALLOCH, TIFFIN, LAURENCE, GATES, KIRK, SMITH (at least 3 seperate ones), HAWKINS, GAGE, MAYHEW (at least 2 sisters), GRIFFITHS, BUTCHER, POOLE, SWAN, PEACHEY, CATER, EVERETT, SEABORN, CHURCH, MILLARD, STANTON, HOMFRAY, MATHER, BUCHHOLZ, ALSTON, TAYLOR, COAKLEY, MCCALLUM, PARKER, HUDD, PARKINSON, WATTS, WATERFALL, CARTWRIGHT, PICKLES, THORNTON, HARLOCK, RICHARDS, SEWELL, HEAD, DWYER, BYRNE, TILL, KING, CORK, BARRITT/BARRETT (both spellings) GARRATT, SOUTHAN, GEORGE, DOCWRA.
then there is the large Harris line of London and Surrey which I shall post later, Robert Harris marrying Elizabeth Cross, great grand daughter of Edmond and Sarah Cross. I will post them later in a seperate message. suffice it for now to say that the above mentioned Walter Burton Harris was a descendant of theirs.

then there are the hundreds of surnames from the U.S.A., descended from Joseph Cross and Hannah SMITH, Joseph being a great, great grandson of Edmond and Sarah Cross.
I'll post them another time. maybe someone will tie in along the way.
