Is William Busch, an attorney, listed in any of the Chicago directories? He would have been in Chicago from about 1870 until his death. He built a house in St. Louis in 1865 with his brother, Gustav. He practiced law briefly in St. Louis then went to Chicago sometime after 1865. Their father was John William Busch. William Busch was my great-great uncle and I have had trouble finding his trail. I would love to be in contact with his descendants. Thank you very much for any information you can supply.

I am looking to track my family's residences through the Brooklyn, NY Telephone Directory in the years 1950, 1960 and 1970. The name is Alvin Mann and he lived in Brooklyn his entire life. I believe that he lived on Flatbush Avenue in the late 50's. He passed away in the late 70's. I would like to get his street addresses and telephone numbers for 1950, 1960 and 1970. And you may be too young to remember, that way back then the telephone numbers used prefixs for the first two numbers (ie. MUrrayhill5-5555). Thanks so much.

I thought if I could scan over the above directories, I might find if my cousin had the phone listed in her name or husband's name. I am trying to find his name; never met him and her only once. Both are deceased as is her son and brother. I don't know if the Library of Congress would have them or not. Tried to search on their website and came up only to 1942..that doesn't make sense.

Does anyone know how to find the publishing and canvassing dates for a particular directory?

I'm seeking the death information for my wife's g-grandfather Charles Emory Garrison (b about 1866 in Ohio; d about 1905-06). I know he was alive in November 1905; his son Arthur was born in August 1906. By Dec 1906, his wife Minnie (nee Weethee) had applied for a marriage license and claimed to be widowed.

He appeared in the 1905-1906 RL Polk Columbus City Directory, but not in the 1907-08 edition.

I've searched the death indexes for 1905-1906, but I can't find him. It would help if I could narrow down the canvassing dates for the 1905-06 and the 1907-08 directory, as those are the best dates I have for narrowing down his death.

Any suggestions for trying to track this down would be helpful as well.

I am wondering if anyone out there has access to the Chicago City Directories, any between 1871 and 1910, and could check for the specific couple listed below. Unfortunately the surname may be spelled a variety of ways. In 1850-1870 they resided in the 16th ward, and I cannot find them in any later census nor are there death records for them, so the Dirs are my only way of narrowing down when they died.

Can anyone tell me why this happens & what the solution is or how to report this & who to report it to?

I was researching family in MA. I found a match on the page I mention below. I thought I'd search that directory & look for other family members....but.....

When I click on on the page title which is a live link to go to the Adams & North Adams, Massachusetts directories the resultant page is Adams, IL.
I hope that makes sense....but I don't know how else to explain this issue.
It appears to be yet another problem since Ancestry made changes.
I copied over where I was & where I ended up in an e-mail to myself but I don't know if I can insert it in these boards.

1907 Directory of New York City?

My great grandparents came through Ellis Island in 1907. On the passenger manifest they each list a relative and their address in New York City. However when I check the 1910 census records for the listed address, they do not appear. I was wondering if a 1907 directory of New York City exists?

...I'm a first-timer, pretty sure I have the right board. Searching for someone not related to me, but related to someone I'm contemplating writing a biography on. Names are Walter Howey (yes, the famous editor Walter Howey) and his wife. Wife might have been listed as either Lib, Liberty or Elizabeth. Looking for any addresses between the years 1912 - 1916. Somewhere in that range; I know they moved from a home or mansion to an apartment flat at some point in that range. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently received copies for two surnames in the Jersey City Directories from 1885-1901. Some of the pages span 'two' years e.g., 1885-1886. Do you know how the date span for city directories was done (i.e., June 85-June 86 or Sept-Sept etc.)? Also, do you know where I can obtain copies of pages from subsequent years of the Jersey City directory? The JC Historical Society only goes to 1901. Lastly, in the 1885-1901 span there were years when my ancestor is not listed at all. How were people included in the directory? Thanks for any/all help.

I know this is a very big long shot but I am looking for a Ken or Kenneth Bostock living in New York in 1939. He was a dance teacher as well as an artist as far as we know.
Ken was born in BC,Canada about 1911
Ken is noted as being from New York in his father's obituary dated June 1939 , BC Canada.

Hello - I just found my grandfather's WWI Registration Card. His name was ARTHUR SENDNER and it looks like he lived at 550 W. 51st Street in NYC. If anyone has access to a NYC Directory going back that far - I would appreciate it if you can give me his address or any other information. The copy of the Registration Card is hard for me to read. I can scan in a copy if anyone would like a copy to review. If anyone has a listing going back -maybe showing his father's name - that would be absolutely wonderful. I am looking for a city directory for Morton, Texas, 1965-1966, where I lived as a child. I called the library there, and they said they did not have one. Does this mean that no directory exists, or was made, for that town?

How did people get listed in the city directories?

The topic i sthe basic question I have. What was the way that someone got listed in a city directory in the early 1900s? It couldn't have been like a census since that would be too expensive. So did people have to fill something out to get listed? Did the post office do it?

Any explaination would be appreciated.

I am an amateur in genealogy (aren't we all?!?) and am wondering how to obtain city directories from early 1900's. Would I have to contact county courthouse where the city is located? Any info provided would be helpful! Thanks!

City of Cumberland, Barron County, WI City Directory from July 1946

I have obtained a copy of the City Directory
of Residents of the City of Cumberland that
was published by Alvin Serklund in July 1946.
We believe this is the only copy of this
document as the Publishing company is no
longer in business. I obtained the copy
from Alvin's son, as I have many relatives
that lived in Cumberland during this time
period. If anyone is looking for people
in that timeframe, feel free to email me
