german parish books

I was wondering if I can purchase a copy of a german parish book? My local LDS library is only open 4 days a week for 3 hours at a time. What with the price of gas, odd work schedules and the fact that I can't read german very well, it's gonna take me forever to get through one reel of film. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Lori

I want to publish all my research in a book with photos and historical events. I have always visioned it as a hardback and treasured as a family hierloom. I am contacting you all to see if anyone has published there research and could help me in finding a good publisher. There are so many when I research on the internet that I need to contact someone who has this experience.

Thank you all

I have looked all over the internet and cannot find where anyone sells copies of it or archives or has transcribed it anywhere. I have looked in my local libraries and no one has it. Can someone tell me what the Boston Transcript is? Is it a newspaper or a genealogical publication? And can anyone tell me where I can find access to it to look up the articles I'd like to research, please? Thank you for helping!

Dawn Roush

At least I didn't order the more expensive hard bound copy! All I can say is, STAY AWAY from their sloppy work.

My sister has asked me what I want for Christmas! Any suggestions on what genealogy books are most useful? I have no general resources at home, but do have access to the Handybook etc at the local library. What would all of you diehard genealogists suggest as a good start for your genealogy library? What has been your most useful-can't do-without book? In addition, do any of you research in New York (not NYC) (1800's), Conn. or Mass. (1700-1800's). How about any more specialized books that you can't do without? Would love to hear your suggestions!

Patty

UK Vital Records Index

Hubby has asked what I would like for Xmas, and after thinking long and hard, I've decided the Edition 2 of the UK Vital Records Index might be handy.

However, where does he get it from in the UK? All the searches on the internet point me back to the LDS uk web site, where when you search for VRI or Vital Records it finds nothing to do with the database. Or alternatively it point you to Familysearch.org (presumably the US based site as all the prices are in dollars).

Any help much appreciated.

Angela

I am looking for a book called Swedes in Texas in Words and Pictures from 1893 to 1918. It is no longer in print and I was looking for a source to get one from. I am willing to pay a reasonable price for the book. It would be of great help to me with my research of my Swedish ancestors.

Thanks very much.
Standard Genealogy Reference Titles - worth keeping?

Hi,

I have several standard books on genealogical research, the value/worth of which I am debating. These include:

The Handy Book for Genealogists, published by Everton Publishers.
The Library, A Guide th the LDS Family History Library, published by Ancestry.
The Archives, A Guide to the National Archives Field Branches, published by Ancestry.
The Source, A Guidebook of American Genealogy, published by Ancestry.

I am curious, with the growth of the internet as a genealogical tool, over the last 15-20 years, do these books have any particular usefullness to a family researcher whose own research has been progressing slowly for the last 20+ years. I have never used these titles much and wonder if I would be likely to find anything of use in them that I wouldn't find via the net.

Do any of you have any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

L.Taylor

I am a woodworker who has been engraving carving wood for years. I am also researching my family genealogy had an idea that I hope will be well recieved. I can engrave your family tree into a wood placque that would endure for generations as an heirloom of your family history. I have done hundreds of engravings for years but only had this idea today. These placques could be produced for as low as $100.00us for a simple three generation tree or larger more intricate works as low as $0.50us per letter. Artwork, design, borders, wood species finish could all be custom prepared. The lifespan of these placques, with proper care, could be hundreds of years.
Please let me know what you think of this idea! budkeeton@aol.com

I have learned of someone that was commissioned to research my father's side of my family. I have made contact with this person and made arrangements to get a copy of the booklet. I stated that I would be willing to pay for the booklet, but was told by this person that they were not sure as to the cost and would contact me soon. I received an e-mail today stating that a copy of the booklet would cost me $125, plus the cost of copying, but was given no page count other than "a lot".

Is this a fair price for a copy of this book? Should I negotiate? Should I pass on this?

THANK YOU for your responses!!
