I am researching a Cherokee Chief named Nettle Carrier, who resided in Overton County, TN. in late 1700's and early 1800's. My GGGG Grandfather, Joseph Jefferson Copeland supposedly married Nettle Carrier's daughter, Hannah Thacker Ward. I am interested in establishing the authenticity of this relationship as it relates to the Copeland Family of Overton County, TN. I would appreciate any information on Chief Nettle Carrier, his wife, Hannah Thacker Ward. jec

I also descend via Joseph 'Big Joe' and Hannah via Jefferson Madison Copeland / Mary Copeland ; Jasper Newton / Selina Jackson ; Margaret Thatcher / James Elisha White (my 1st greats). (thought I'd mention that some don't think Jefferson Madison is son of Big Joe and Hannah but based on my research he seems to be)

I am related to Jefferson Madison via his son, Jasper, so he would be my great-great-great-great-great grandfather I believe. From what I have found, and it may be wrong, Jefferson's father was James R, not Joseph, but like I said that may be wrong. However James was born in 1787 Chatham City, NC and died in 1850 in Overton, TN.

I also am a descendent of Hanna Thatcher through the Copeland line. I understood that it was questionable whether she was actually a daughter of Nettle Carrier.
