Marriage Certificate Question

I recently sent for a marriage certificate for my great (X2) grandparents. I was hoping for the fathers of both of them to be listed on it, but no names for the fathers of the bride or groom are listed on it. Just a dash/line where either father's name should be. Any advice as to why this might be?
