Hays/Hayes Family Reunion

I am posting this general inquiring to get an idea of how many Hay/Hayes Family members would be interested in holding a Family Reunion. We used to hold an annual reunion at the Dade Battlefied in Bushnell, Florida. It's been a long time since the last reunion and several members in the local (Sumter/Pasco Counties, FL) area have been wanting to hold the reunion again. Since there are not enough people to make it worthwhile, I would like to extend this to the entire clan.

Let's make this happen!!

This is what I am proposing. We need a consensus on a date and location. Since most of this family is from the Southeastern United States, I am proposing that we limit our location area to this region (VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL). It would be nice to hold it at Dade Battlefield again, but I fear that many people would not be able to come to Florida.

Post your ideas or contact me directly at frggy_grl@yahoo.com or jahayes72@hotmail.com.

Thanks,

Julie Ann Hayes
Zephyrhills, Pasco Co, FL

How do you get young people interested in attending your reunion?

I am soliciting your help with ideas on getting young people interested in participating in family reunions.

The first reunion for my ancestor, who died in 1873, was in 1903. For many, many years, the reunion was well attended. It was a HUGE event in Northwest Florida. But, within the last few years, attendance has dropped considerably.

At the reunion last Saturday, the emcee asked everyone under the age of 35 to stand; only about 15 of the 250+ people in attendance stood. Most of the attendees were MUCH older than 35--including me! And, there were not very many people between the ages of 35 and 50.

I am concerned that if we don't quickly generate more interest among younger people, that within a few years, there will not be enough people to sustain our reunion.

Have you been successful in attracting younger people to your reunions? If so, I would appreciate your suggestions for what our family can do.

Thanks so much for your help.

Reunion question

This is just a general question. What is the difference between say a family gathering and a reunion? For example about 2.5 years ago, we had a clan gathering at my aunt & uncles place. We basically had a lunch gathering at a local place there for pizza, salad, drinks, and an area for the kids to play around

And then later in the evening we had another gathering with a few less people at their house for a campfire type dinner and over half stayed for the campout itself, overnight with tents and everything

They even took a picture at the lunch gathering of the entire family. We don't have very many family gatherings anymore especially with that # of people

Suzanne

It's going to happen. Don't miss the first get-together of Thomas Merritt of Rye's descendents. We have a block of $100 rooms reserved (my sister Alice) at the Hampton Inn in Stamford (OK, we're not big spenders) with a meeting room and breakfast of sorts included. A side trip to see Wicked ($145 ea) on Broadway is being planned (my sister Jane). An itinerary is in the making which includes Saturday night dinner and talks and Sunday morning visits to Nathan's and John's cemeteries and probably more(my sister Pat). This isn't going to require much time or money, so c'mon Merritts et al. Send me your email address (and lineage) so we can at least include you in future plans. Any suggestions on how to get the word out and itinerary ideas would be appreciated. We already have 20 to 30 people coming from Oregon, Arizona, Missouri, Vermont, New Hampshire, Germany and Connecticut (I have a lot of sisters.) Find out if you're related to the Merritt Parkway, P T Barnum, the founders of English Canada, the first mayor of New York, Anna Nicole Smith, William the Conq. and a lot more. If you don't show up, you may be elected president of our new family association.

We are having our annual reunion which is called the Lett Settlement reunion July 14-16. This is for all the families who intermarried with the Letts, Myers, Guys, Normans, Harpers, ect. You can see many of them at my website to see if these are your families too.

http://www2.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=mibabs&v...

We have a great time with visiting, but also do presentations on certain families each year, our common history, and do tours. This year we'll have several presentations concerning our connections to a couple Presidents. Many come with their research and love to sit together and find pieces to swap. Some just want to visit and meet people. If you think you may be related, please email me. I can send you the actual schedule and details. Its a wonderful get together.

First Annual O'Neal Reunion

There is a reunion being planned for October or November of 2004 for the descendents of Baillen Brittian O'Neal and Hannah Sherrel O'Neal. If you have documentation that you are from these lines please contact me at dsmitty930@yahoo.com.
The lines are: Baillen Brittian O'Neal (b:1770 So. Carolina), his sons are: James O'Neal (b:1790 d: 1863), Phillip (b:1795), Andrew (b;1799 d: 1856 DeKalb Cty), Zacharaih (b:1800 d::1885 Trenton, Ga.), Albert (b:1805 d:1860 DeKalb Cty), and Bird Brittian (b: 1811 died 1863).
Some of the lines that I know of are Cuzzort, Lyemance, Maxwell, Gifford, Steele,(thru the Bird Brittian line) Hartline (thru Zachariah's son William's son George Washington O'Neal who Married Nancy Hartline).
Brief History: Baillen was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He married Hannah (daughter of Phillip & Martha Sherrel) about 1889 they had moved into Habersham County, Ga. by 1830. Andrew was already there in 1827 where he married Nancy Ann Allen, they moved into Madison County Ga, and by 1850 there were in DeKalb County, Alabama. Albert, Phillip were already in DeKalb County when Andrew and his family moved there. Ballien, James, Zachariah, & Bird were in Trenton, Dade County, Ga by 1840. Baillen and Hannah were not on the 1850 census in Dade County but are on the 1840. They died between 1840-1850 and both are buried in the Baptist Cemetery in Trenton. James P. and Bird were in the Civil War and died in Cold Harbor, Va. with in one day of each other, July 1863.
This reunion is the hope of starting an annual event maybe being hosted in other places after this one. It is only fitting that the first one be held on Trenton since the Elder O'Neals are buried there. Details will be given later when and after contact with me.

Thanks, Debbie Smith

Go to MSN web communities and search for Godbey Reunion. This sight contains pictures and info on past and future annual reunions for the family of Ephra Slavens and Cora Alice Adams Godbey. Any one welcome to check it out. When you enter, they will send a request, and you will have to be approved. Just says you are a Godbey Decendant, and you will be approved to enter.
This sight is really neat. There are lots of pictures, including the Cabin at Fishing Creek (outside Science Hill)KY. Also there is a picture of the family crest or coat of arms.
Enjoy
Michele

Does anyone know of a reunion this August? No one seems to be posting to this board now? Would be happy to hear from anyone who could tell me this or who knew a Moose family there. I was born Gwladys Moose. I have pictures visiting a Jim Moose there about 1931 or '32. My grandfather, William D Moose, was listed in a much earlier census. His father was Peter who had several children and are listed in a much much earlier census of which I have copies.

I would like information regarding the Hunter Family Reunion held each year in July. Last year the reunion was held in Macon, GA. This year it will held in Fitzgerald, GA. My g-grandfather's name was Charles Wesley Hunter from Macon, GA. He left GA not telling anyone where he was going. He was married Annie and had 2 children at that time. The Hunters in South Jersey and PA would like to find our "Hunter" relatives in GA.

This Reunion for Descendants of Early Settlers to Big Sandy Valley included Carter County. Come to be ready for great activities Sunday June 6 at 11:30 a.m to 5:00 p.m EDT at the Fallsburg Park in Lawrence County. [Because we have to pay for the meeting place and maintaining the Family Com site we are charging $2.00 per person for Registration. There will be limited freebies!] We will be honoring Bob Polley by presenting his widow with the first CD we have made of the Area. And there are a few items of business to take care of but mostly this is a working meeting without a big to-do about food or entertainment. We entertain ourselves by meeting and sharing our genealogy materials. Many have to have assistance in unloading all they bring. Amazing sight! Lawrence County ancestors and descendants have either come from or migrated to surrounding counties. Who knows how many cousins you will find. It's a great place to meet and learn. I hope to see you there! We are giving out the CD to those who have shared their ged.com in the making of it. A few are bringing laptops and we hope to be able to have persons to show how to do several things to make Research easier for everyone. This is optional and going on while others are exchanging materials. I listed my surnames but among those attending you can expect to find many many more!
YOU ARE WELCOME AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.
I would like to set up a Pence family reunion in Wolfe
County this coming year (2003) Where we could all meet for once and share information. I've met hundreds of cousions of ours (Descendants of Andrew Jackson Pence Sr.)

I would like to hold it in Wolfe County, probally in Campton or Around Pence Branch if we could find a good place. If anyone would like to help me get this started e-mail me. We had one for the Kidd family, and I leared vast amounts of new information about my family.

I am a great great grandson of Felix Pence who was a son of Andrew Jackson Pence Sr. - If your interested e-mail me. I'd like to aim for late Febuary of 2003. If I can generate enought Interest, I would build a website for the family & reunion to get even more attention. The more who attend, the more we would learn.

Thanks
Roger Kidd.
rogerkidd662@hotmail.com

I’m writing to you because I’m planning the Legette Family Reunion and I’m trying to locate family members. My mother Freddie Legette-Leach was responsible for planning our first family reunion in 1991 held in Trenton, NJ. Since then we have held several reunions and met some new family members.

My mothers home caught on fire in February of last year and she lost all of her addresses of previous reunions, so we are starting from scratch. I began to check the Internet and look up Legettes to search for possible family members and your name showed up. If you know any of the names mentioned below and you are indeed a relative, please contact me so that you can be added to the mailing list for this year’s reunion. The reunion will be held July 2-5th, 2004.

Simon & Lula Legette met and married in South Carolina 1903, they had 14 children.
Maggie Legette (Roberts) - February 23, 1906
Booker T.
