The man you mentioned in your message that was tortured went by the name of Giles Corey. He would not tell the church who really cast a spell on an accuser, so the court decided to torture him to get the name out of him. Corey would not let on to what he knew. So the court pressed him, which means they placed heavy stones upon his chest until he told. But he never did. Giles Corey was the only person to be killed by "pressing" in the Salem Witch Trials.
