I know this post is very old, but I was reading an article about the Salem Witch Trials today and came across a part that made me think of this thread.
"Giles Corey, Martha’s husband, refused to answer the charges against him, standing mute to avoid having his property confiscated after his death (as would have happened if he had submitted to a trial and been convicted)."
So I am guessing that Susannah's land was confiscated by the town and perhaps sold to people who owned land adjacent to hers..? I also read somewhere else that a reason for the accusations, was thought to be because of land, and that the accusers of Susannah were her neighbors, and that this could be the cause of her accusations. She was an outspoken land owner who ran her own farm. That was probably very threatening to men back then.
