Hi, I am trying to find any information about the wreck of the "Betsy Caines" (or Caynes) on 17th February 1827, where she ran onto rocks at Tynemouth, England. The ship was apparently over 200 years old at the time.
This vessel was owned by Dutch Merchants named van Stain (or van Stein) and Sir John Caines of England. Tradition also has it that the "Betsy Caines" was chartered for conveying part of the suite of William and Mary of Orange to England in 1688/9.
Any information about the ship, or suggestions where to search next would be appreciated.

Just a little note on your query. My descendants are both the Van Stains and the Cairns (as one of the Van Stain boys married the daughter of Sir John and Lady Grace Cairns). This branch came to Australia in 1819. William and Mary Orange did indeed get transported by the 'Betsy Cairns' to England in 1688. Unfortunately, I have no information on the shipwreck of said ship but all of your facts fit perfectly with my family tree.

Regards
Todd
