You seem to be on the right track, the tonage would appear less because of changes to insurance criteria. The vessle had to sit higher in the water before Loyds would reinsure them, hence the 602t. My ancestors departed Plymoth bound for Australia aboard Three Bells Captaned by Archie Campbell. Still hunting infomation myself.
