I assume your question really is not how you get the internet to work on your laptop...since you say FTM 2005 works. Rather the question is how do you get the internet to function with FTM 2008.

I don't know Vista and am not a guru on FTM 2008, but will say that in order to solve some of the problems I had with using the web features of FTM 2008, I had to go back to at least make IE accessible, in my case IE7, instead of blocking all browsers except Foxfire which I prefer. This is mainly due to the fact that FTM 2008 seems to be built around assumption that IE is one's browser.

I suspect you will be asked for many more details than you have given in order for the techs to be able to find what you need to do in order to connect to the internet while using FTM 2008.

You may as well start by giving as much specific information about the problems you have encountered...what you are using and whether you are able to connect with FTM in anyway or whether you have failed to connect at all. What have you tried and what happened when you did etc.

Though FTM is not very user friendly, in my opinion, there should be no reason you cannot use it with its internet features and it does have some other attractive features which none of the previous versions have.

Karen,

There shouldn't be any difference between 2008 and 2006. Just remember that you have to let your Firewall software to allow BOTH to access the Internet.

Please provide some details as to what happens.

You can first check the File, Online option.

Please go to this website:

Enter 3072 into the Keyword Search box and read that Article. There are a number of solutions for you there.

Karen

Can you access Ancestry.com outside FTM on your laptop?

Can you access Virtual Earth from FTM on your laptop in Places?

In each case if the answer is NO please advise what you are seeing or not seeing?

What firewall(s) are you using?

There are many new features in 2008 that are worthwhile if they ever get the program fixed. One feature that I liked is that you could save text and graphic information from Ancestry.com right in FTM. The problem I had was that when I frequently accessed Ancestry.com's site within FTM 2008, it would crash. I had to resort to accessing Ancestry.com from the web browser instead then saving the information myself manually.

I also don't have a clue about FTM 2008 since I removed it from my computer several months ago. I still use FTM 2006.
