FTM2009 Image Viewer on Vista (64)

I recently had to put my FTM2009 on a Vista 64 box (replacing XP grrr).

The install etc. went okay; update was applied; database was opened successfully...

In other words all seems well (more memory/faster machine=better performance even).

However when I went to view an image on a search hit and said yes to the "install custom viewer" option it couldn't be installed as it had no Type that was recognized by Windows Vista.

The Name is reported as MFInstall but has not Type.
A screenshot is attached.
Is there an FTM solution or do we have to Save and figure out how to install ourselves?

Thanks.

George,

Is that message from your Browser? If you, yes, you will need to install the Enhanced Viewer from Ancestry.

What Browser are you using? and its version?

My browser is IE7.

The message was from within FTM when I clicked on a Fig Leaf then chose View Image then chose install and use enhanced viewer.

The little image attachment shows the popout.
I presume that ordinarily Run would be there but this time it isn't.
I don't recall what would have happened when I was on XP.

Does that help?
Geo.

George,

Please go to this website:

Enter 2563 in the Keyword Search box. That should help you.

Russ,

Thanks for your attention but...
Following your path and searching for the 2563 produced not hits.

I picked an article at random and searched for its Article-Id and it was located so the search method is valid.
I eventually found the Article as Id #2562.

My 1st read makes me think everything is set as required.
Windows Firewall was on so I tried with it Off.
No joy.

I'll have to play with it a few more times.
I'll certainly let you know one way or another.
Thx.
Geo.

Geo,

Sorry. Yes, it is 2562 that you need to look at.

If you are running Vista, remember to run as administrator.

I had to search for a while for an answer as well. I found this article: http://www.amazon.com/review/RX3F8YPZNHNWO.

In short, you need to save the file to your desktop and rename with a .exe extension. It started and updated my viewer just fine from there.

Thank you for this.
I did a Save as and included the .exe and exited FTM then ran the image and restarted FTM - the enhanced viewer was then in place and works (happens to be 2010 Beta).

Frankly, I had pretty much forgotten about the issue and the solution is a bit of a duhhh I could have tried that but was expecting it to just work as it had on XP.

Anyway, again, thanks for the followup.
