Proper use of "UE" (United Empire Loyalist) in names.

A number of my ancestors earned the official designation UE, and should properly be referred to as, for example, John Smith UE.

If I take that approach with FTM, all of the UE's are separated from their family members in any alphabetic list, and therefore most of the "Joneses" would be followed by most of the "Smiths" and at the end of the list are all the "UEs." What is the recommended best practice to honour these ancestors correctly and still keep them amongst their families. Hyphenating the -UE would come close, would brackets [UE] do the job? Is their a better way?

Don,

I don't know that designation, but is it like Ph.D? It sounds like it could be a Suffix.

The Help menu talks about this. You might have to enter the name as:

Samuel Jasper \Adams\UE

Please note the back slash around the surname. This is for data entry and shouldn't show up in print.

Thank you very much ... that, and the Help file solved my problem perfectly!

Russ, if using FTM 2009 wouldn't the 'Edit Name' box allow the added Suffix w/o using slashes?

Ralph,

I don't know about that "uncommon" (for the USA) Suffix. What I posted was from the Help menu.
