spouse missing from selected reports

Recently upgraded to a new computer (Vista 32-bit) and using FTM 2009. Hate 2008/2009 but now stuck because too much data entered. That's another story...

Recently discovered problem - my deceased spouse does not appear in selected reports. He appears in Descendant Trees and Marriage Reports, but not Simple Register Reports from my ancestors. I do appear as his spouse in Simple Register Reports from his ancestors. My sister's living spouse does appear in all the reports.

Any idea why this has happened and any idea how to correct?

Many thanks.

Elyse,

From the People, Person screen, of your husband, select Relationships and see if the Shared Relationships with you are correct.

Yes, we are each listed as the other's spouse under relationships. Both are indicated as "preferred".

I think it started happening since I got this new computer. I wasn't using FTM 2009 frequently on my old computer (XP), and only noticed the problem since I got this new Vista computer a few weeks ago. But since I don't have any reports that include me generated by FTM 2009 under the old computer, I am not certain if it is a FTM 2009 problem or a Vista problem.

Any other ideas? This is really driving me crazy. I want my husband to be in my reports!

Also, I should mention that the little arrow to the left of my name from my parents' page is "clear", indicating no additional info, while my married with children sister's is "solid".

Oops! I just checked and noticed the same problem with my husband's married with no children sister's spouse is not appearing in any charts either.

This may be a problem throughout my file! This is clearly a kink in the software. Is there a fix? I can't go through 4,000 names to double check.

Elyse,

Did you check the Index to see if you are listed twice?

If you look at the People, Family screen, how many spouses are listed under you or your husband? Is the number correct?

Russ

We are all only listed once in the index. If it matters, the people who aren't showing up in the reports do not have children in these marriages.

I've tried writing to you directly. Appreciate you trying to help me resolve this.

Elyse,

Are you looking at a Genealogy Report AND the "missing" people are not showing up in the Generation where they should be listed as Adults? If they are in the Genealogy Report, under their Parents and do NOT have children, then they will NOT be listed in the Next Generation of that report.

Yes, and why would that be?

I've been double checking throughout the file. It seems that spouses are never listed whenever there are no children. This is in all of the Genealogy Reports - Register, Simple Register, etc. Marriages are only mentioned if the descendant has a child from any marriage. But if there are couples who have never had children, there is no mention that the person was ever married.

I have never had this happen with FTM over the years and certainly can't share reports with my famiy members if there are no mention of their spouses.

All previous versions of FTM ALWAYS INCLUDED all marriages and spouses and whatever facts were filled in. How can they suddenly not include them?!?!? And how can I get them back? It is also a pain to have to manually choose which facts to include in a report when previously any non-blank fact was published.

If not possible to include child-less spouses, do you know if all my saved info can be imported to a GED file and inported back to FTM 2006? That's the last version I have in the old format. I must have downloaded version 16 on-line, because I have no disc and that was two computers ago. Don't know if 2006 works with Vista, but I am really fed up with FTM 2009. Otherwise, I am thinking of switching to Legacy which seems to have a lot of good reviews.

Thanks for all your help and advice, Russ

Elyse,

When there are NO offspring, from a marriage, that individual or couple will NOT appear in the Next Generation. Reason: That is the End of the Blood Line, down that branch of the tree. There is NO additional information in the reports.

It has been this way since Version 3.4, when I started.

Again, A Child is listed with his or her Parents. IF he or she married, that marriage will be reported in the tree.

IF there are no offspring from this relationship, the "child" and spouse will NOT appear in the next generation. As all of the information has reported.

Does that help?

Russ

Dear Russ,

I appreciate all your efforts, but there did in fact used to be a Register Report that included spouses, regardless of children. I created many of these reports in FTM versions as recently as ver. 2006. All the years I have been using FTM, I never NOT had childless spouses in reports. This is a new issue for sure.

Attached are the Register Report pages from the book I created for a family reunion in Sept 2005 which shows my husband and me and is the report I am trying to create.

Please take a look and let me know which report this is in FTM 2009. You will see very clearly that my husband and his data is included. I have not touched the info on the two of us since 2005.

Many thanks again for your continued help.
