exporting from ancestry.com to FTM

Hi all,
I spent the last year getting my family tree in order online on ancestry.com and just now go around to buying Family Tree Maker. I created a GEDCOM and imported it to FTM. Problem is all my pictures and some of the sources got left behind -- it now looks like I have to pursue all those leaves again to bring the sources into FTM. Did I miss a step or something?
Thanks,
Rich

ainsrow,

A GEDCOM file will NOT contain images.

Guessing that you are using Family Tree Maker Version 2009.

I would suggest that you use this link:

http://ftm.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ftm.cfg/php/enduser/ask_feed...

And provide some detailed feedback to Family Tree Maker 2009.

You will probably not receive feedback from them, but the developers do read the feedback.

Good luck,

Russ

FTM creates a .gedz file, which does have images, for upload to Ancestry. Why can't Ancestry create a .gedz file for download to FTM?!?

Very good point !

If they enabled a method for easy media download then more people would be tempted away from Ancestry.com once they'd done the bulk of the census years. Clearly its a bigger buck winner than FTM.

I hope a clever bod comes up with a neat fix one day. Until then its back to person 1 and start a fresh. Thats what I'm going to do. BUT with the caveat of keeping all my media and sources organised how I want and not to spend hours n hours pandering to the quirks of FTM (or Roots for that matter - different look same issues). Otherwise its the same trap.

By the way spotted the FTM support guys link has been 'in maintenance' quite some time. Blimey if they can't handle a feedback system what hope of an air tight database. I wouldn't mind all this for Freeware. But I've given 'the company' an annual fee AND paid for 'not cheap' software.
