Lewis,

I guess is has to do what HOW you use that Reference ID. I use it in a specific manner and have been adding the Reference Numbers for many versions of Family Tree Maker. They are available to me in version 2010 and I continue to use them for the same purpose.

The issue with the Automatic Reference Number, from previous versions of Family Tree Maker is that they could change, be deleted, and/or duplicated. Manually overwriting them, as I have, worked then and still works.

The Individual Reference ID and Shared / Marriage Reference ID is a standard field in Version 2010 as well.

All relational databases need internal IDs for record pointing. It should be a protected field not subject to overwriting. If an individual is deleted then the number should not be reused.

Manually entering IDs at this point for 1,000+ individuals is a very laborious task.

kewusny,

The Internal ID and the Reference ID's are different.

At this point, I would suggest that you go to this website:

http://ancestry.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ancestry.cfg/php/enduse...

and submit the details of your problem there.

Russ
