FTM 2009 Crashes

After using it successfully for several months, FTM 2009 began crashing on me. I have the updated version. I have Microsoft WSE 3.0 Runtime. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I tried creating a new family tree thinking the old one might be corrupted. It crashed before I'd finished entering data for the 4th person! I've googled FTM crashes and found that many others are having problems. I'm ready to switch to another program (after decades of happy use). Any advice? Is 2010 any better, or am I just throwing good money after bad?

Hi Russ,

I checked all the settings referred to in the 4442 article, will see if it crashes again the next time I'm using it. If it matters the machine it's on is Windows XP with all it's Microsoft updates current. Any other advise? I'm hesitant to install it on my Windows Vista machine.

Thanks again for that quick find in the forums.

Patricia

Patricia,

Why are you hesitant to installing on your Vista PC?

Hi Russ,

My older version works just fine and software crashes are just annoying..that's all.

Patricia,

Yes, folks have reported Version 2009 crashes. However, there ARE resolutions to that problem.

Are you interested in getting 2009 up and running?

Yes, software crashes and computer crashes are annoying, but in most cases they can be resolved.

Thank you,

Russ

Russ,

Send me what information/resolutions you have as an aid to correct the crashes, I do know that computers are not inclined to crash for the exact same reasons, not all computers are alike.

I have it installed on my XP system and since yesterday I have not opened it. Going back to the Microsoft .NET resolution that has been verified as not the culprit, what else is there I can be on look out for?

Patricia,

For starters, Please go to the new Knowlege Base website at

http://ancestry.custhelp.com/

and enter 5029 in the Search Support box on that page.

Hope that helps,

Russ
